Just commited TB heresy...

flats and a tort pickguard

I took the flats off my P bass, and replaced with rounds.
Also, in full confession mode, I switched the gold ano guard I had on it for a black one. Also, I don't like most tort 'guards.
(I also like the bass this way.)

Please don't tell the TB Pope...

That's great. Just send me that anodized PG you fell out of love with. I'll give it a good home! :D

I have to say after following this thread all day I have had many a laugh, flats vs rounds and the pick guard was a good starting point but a few Monty Python posts and even the Talkbass Pope has joined in. Well I play rounds and replaced the black pick guard to tort on my american deluxe jazz, and no Humbled nothing wrong with a Tort g string.

I guess I'd draw the ire of everyone, since out of almost a dozen basses, none have flats, none have a tort PG, and most heretical of all, none of them are Ps.

(tort does look good on traditional 3-color sunburst, though - gives it that vintage 70's look)

I sold the last of my p basses back in the 90s. I've never really cared for flats on any bass I've had but because of talkbass I'll occasionally get a set just to realize yet again that flats are not for me.

Same here. I look at it like subtractive synthesis. You can remove frequencies if needed but you cant add if its not there. Flats are terrible!

My Squier P Bass is blonde and wears stainless rounds, it plays better than most poorly set up American fenders, and sounds like a Rick. I just blacked up the pickguard, and it wears a pickup cover, but not a bridge cover.
I have a Squier Jag neck on my Stagg P bass which I gutted and turned into a 'Ray copy. It is bright orange.
I usually use a pick, and sometimes I play powerchords up the neck with a cloned OD pedal.

Am I banned yet? ;)

EDIT: The 'Ray copy is covered in stickers, I prefer to play looking as casual as possible (Shorts, occasionally no t-shirt) and I dance around like flea.

Also I can't understand the Fieldy hate because all the things that you complain about are applicable to a muted P bass with flats (Can't really hear what notes are being played, and the tone only fits in one genre)
