Just commited TB heresy...

'78 P-Bass-1.JPG Actually, IMO it doesn't really matter what kind of pickguard you have, or what kind of strings; as long as it's some iteration of a P-Bass, and you play it. In my case, I replaced the original black pickguard (now carefully stored) on my '78 with a Fender cream-black-cream one after the bass was refinished (yes, I know that's heresy in itself, but when the total finish adds up to something smaller than a business card..) 'cause I thought a black one-or tort-just looked gloomy. But it does have flats, and the mute in the bridge cover. With 17 other basses, I don't need it to be versatile; I need it to sound like P-Basses did waaay back in the day...:)

So, I pulled this out at practice the other night, here are some opinions:

Initial reactions were that it sounded as though a blanket had been pulled off my head, freeing the way to the removal of whatever was plugging my ears, which prompted the removal of a heavier, thicker blanket from atop my amp.
Further impressions were that the clouds had parted, and that Thor had called and asked me to crank it down.
Then things got out of hand when Tarzan stopped by because he heard elephants running by.

Overall impressions-seems to be ok.

Apologies if unclear, trying not to resort to hyperbole. :D

(in seriousness, I will still use flats for recording, but rounds are for me when playing live. ) :)
