Just commited TB heresy...

I9QUHDcc.jpg

Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say No at will to tort, flats and Leo. There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred.

I've tried numerous times to like flats, still at least once a year I buy a set and put them on a P bass or a Jazz bass only to realize what I already know. They sound dead and lifeless.

As far as Tort guards, they are ok on a white or natural bass, but some folks think they go on everything. Your bass is neon green? Tort guard it is :D

I figured out how they make tort guards

What I don't understand is the heresy part. Someone has to explain this. I've used both ...
Well, see, once upon a time a few people apparently said you should use flats on your P bass. Hundreds, if not thousands, of TBers who favor rounds then took umbrage and have been pretending ever since that they are an oppressed, super-rebellious minority. I think 99% of them are joking, but the joke has been beaten to death, buried underground, and dug back up again.;)

I have a '64 Precision with flats and tort. Since the bass is original and sunburst; the tort looks just right and I wouldn't dream of changing it.

However, I have TI flats, which sound amazing and amplify well and sit in the mix well and makes my drummer smile n' stuff. But I just prefer the feel of rounds. I think the bass is more alive as an instrument when it has rounds. It feels more seductive and groovy. I really mean this BTW. It is such a pleasure to own and play such an instrument. So I keep trying flats to see whether I can cope with them. But I have to admit Worship Yesterday was sooooooooooooooooooooo good with flats. I had that fabulous connection with my drummer that confounds explanation/logic. Bass n drum Nirvana.

Anyways so I'll carry on switching between rounds and flats till my '66 Precision is ready. Then I'll have the tricky decision on which one has the flats ...

Peace

I know I can't can't get my sound on flats, so I hear you on this. There's a lot of myopics on this site; the choice is and should always be YOURS, not some hack keyboard warrior who would have you playing their brand of flats on a '70's P-bass ad finitum. I'm ready for a lengthy ban on this site tbh.....
And lets ban humor as well. It is annoying the crabby curmudgeons on TB. They already have plenty to be pissed off about.
:rage:
