I'm not attached to any particular speaker size, but that said, these ^ and their predecessors (D140F) have a very specific sound that's not been duplicated since. I use a 2-15 w/the D's and that's my go-to cab for most of my bass guitar gigs

Good for them. Playing well doesn't mean one has any knowledge of the physics involved with sound reproduction. If things worked that way, then learning to drive would mean I was qualified to design car engines.

Do they? I'm not so sure. I think if the car needed something done, they'd do it, even if the driver didn't think so.

Maybe not all of the companies do, but there are a hand full of companies that keep an ear to our needs and wants. Custom string sets and some Bass cab designs have been spawned because of TalkBass threads.
In the end, they are still for profit companies that are entitled to sell what they predict to bring the highest number of sales.
OTOH, its cool when a company creates a product that will last and suite our needs at a reasonable price. Some of the Technical side is better left to the engineers

Typically a horrid combination! Geez!

First my statement was in general. Of course you need to do your homework in regards to selecting the right speaker combinations. But a horrid combination, man you are way off course. That is a very common setup you see pro bass players using at live shows.

That is an ideal setup if you are using an amp with Bi-Amp/crossover functions or two separate heads.

Years back I used when I was touring I used a GK 800RB which is a Bi-amp with a fullrange crossover. That sat on a SWR 4x10 cab which sat on a SWR 1x15 cabinet. Sent all the deep low end (around 50Hz or so) to the 15 and the rest to the 4x10. Killer combo.

So saying a 4x10 and a 1x15 is a horrid combination is even more misleading for a beginner.

Here a couple guys you might recognize (out of many) that use those HORRID combinations:

It is actually MORE of a horrid combination if you bi-amp.

To provide all the mids/highs you would need when using a 1X15 cab, all you need is ONE 6" mid driver.

So.......anyone bi-amping with a 1X15 and a 4X10 is lugging around a heavy 4X10 for nothing other then looks.

As far as 810's not being phased out? Well its got 8 drivers in it. You have to respect 8 speakers in one box. Its kind of like sitting in a restaurant booth with 8 decent looking girls in a sense.

I think the serious reasons why 15s rule have been covered and now we’re just having fun talking about cars, PA's, 2, 3-way cabs, Frankenstein rigs and hopefully hot chicks.
