Just Ordered a Gold Foil Jazz directly from Fender

I didn't have headphones on but it just kind of sounds to me like Jazz on the neck pickup. Not bad but that. I wonder how these 1 x single coil gold foil pickups are as far as noise is concerned.

I've thought about if I made a simplified Jazz bass I'd just have the neck position rout with a split coil Fralin J pickup.

I like the simplicity. And I get that it's different. But it's like a Jazz Bass that always wanted to be a P bass, so it transitioned, but with the wrong surgeon and didn't get a split pickup....

The look is definitely growing on me and I'm sure it sound fantastic but I can't seem to shake the knobs... they just look awkward with the rest of the bass. Is it just me?

Supposed to be a humbucker from what I’ve read.

No, not just you...my first thought was that I liked the whole aesthetic except for the knobs. As mentioned, though, easy enough to swap out.

I've never ordered anything directly from Fender.. so we'll see how this goes. Should have it in hand in at most 7 days or so. Updates to come..

That pickup looks very much like a Rickenbacker neck pickup, I wonder if it has any tonal similarities?
