I ordered a Schecter Diamond P Plus earlier today. I'm getting the DVS (Dark Vintage Sunburst) which comes with a Maple fingerboard. In my area options are limited, so I couldn't actually put my hands on one. I haven't found too many reviews for this bass so I figured I'd ask around. It "seems" to have all of the bases covered from looks to versatility, but dropping nearly 8 bills for something you've never played can make one nervous. Does anybody out there own one, or have even played one? I've been wanting a P/MM pup combo for a while, and I'm hoping it fits the bill. Thanks!

Never heard of that one! Sounds interesting. All I can add is I tried a DP a few years back and was pretty underwhelmed. Of course it was less than half the price, so hopefully this is a huge upgrade. Loved my studio 5, and played (and gushed over) a 90's jazz clone, so I know they can and have made some very nice gear. Please give us a review after you get to play her for a bit. Hopefully you will be a happy camper!
I haven't played a Diamond P, but I did own a Diamond series Stiletto Custom 6 which was solidly built. Sounded great and looked beautiful. Schecter, in my opinion, is a great brand and won't disappoint.
Yes. It has The Seymour Duncan P SPB-3 and an MM SMB-4D. They are wired in series and parallel with a 4 way rotary switch. Swamp Ash body, Flamed Maple top. Grover tuners, Wilkinson Bridge String through or top load.
That's a great looking bass. I have an older ESP/LTD B series and it plays great. I've never owned a Schecter. I've heard positive reviews about them. As soon as it comes in I'll take pics, and spread the word.
Thanks. And it plays even better than it looks. Schecter necks are great. Turn down the neck pup and turn up the bridge 'bucker and it even plays country! Very versatile.
I'm not sure how to do the please report back list, but I will post back here when in comes in this coming week. Hopefully this week I should say.
. So far the fit and finish seems just fine. No sharp fret ends, and everything seems to line up well. It's not heavy, only 8 1/2 to 9 pounds, and we'll balanced. It sounds great, but getting used to the pups in series and parallel, plus a push/pull for humbucker and single coil operation might take some time. It's too soon to give it a grade, but so far, thumbs up.I'm going to put some flatwounds on, and dial in the intonation. I think it's a little sharp. I'll report back in a day or two to say how it goes.
I had some old Ernie Ball flats that I changed off of another bass a while back. Slapped those on just to check the feel. Wow. The Narrow X-Jumbo frets makes it super easy to play. Just touch the string and the notes ring out. This is my first "string through". There's a noticeable difference in the sustain as well. (You can top load them if you prefer) I was worried about the width of the neck at the nut. I'm used to a 38mm or an 1 1/2" nut. This is like many standard "P's" with an 1 5/8". But the Thin "C" neck profile makes it a snap to play. So far so good.
I have an mim fender pbass that I'm working on. I'll check to see how it lines up and let you know
My MIM P doesn't "exactly" line up. The pickguard itself on the Schecter is even shaped a little differently. You could get it to work, but it wouldn't be perfect. I wonder if there's any where you can buy genuine Schecter parts?
