This song has a sentimental value to me. I'm from Montréal. Where The Box, but also Men Without Hats and Me Mom & Morgentaler came from.
This song is so 80's. Yet the bass is exactly perfect in its role.

I don't know much what was the extent of their international appeal. (Opposite Men without hats, for example, which I've heard as far as Bangkok.)

Those Filipino bands are a big industry over there! You can actually order them by catalogue. Pages after pages of bands all looking alike -- 3 to 4 mustached musicians with 2 to 3 glitter covered female dancers -- who will play anything from CCR to the Rolling Stones flawlessly. You'll find them all over Asia performing in hotel bars. Its a very interesting phenomena.

yeah, nearly all the hotels around where I lived in Bangers had PI groups playing in their ballrooms. I even dated some of the singers
they have special visas that they get for performing, & there's a licensing bureau in the PI

15 years total, but only a small portion of that in Bangers & Nonthaburi
first time in Nonthaburi, I lived right next to Impact Arena, one of the biggest venues in the country
my workplace was nearby & we sold & serviced industrial instruments, level gauges, flow meters, and the systems to monitor it all
my first task with the company was to attend a seminar in Phuket hosted by Emerson Process, which is a pretty big player in the plant-wide control systems business
I lost that job when I went up against Honeywell & Siemens for a huge project & lost.
Months later I was working on a job up in Udorn where I learned I would have won another big project with my former boss, if I had just stuck around.
All the instruments on that job were Emerson, supplied by my former employer, from a bid & sales pitch I did with my former boss, LOL!

second time in the metropolitan area was in Bangers where I lived on Soi 22 of Sukhumvit road & walked to work at a school on Soi 15, where I was the campus manager, aka the Assets Manager
the building & maintenance manager was my subordinate & I was involved in drafting plans for their new building on campus, a rather large project
the Principal/Headmaster drove me a little more mad than I already was, so I threw in my CV/resumé with my previous employer down in Rayong province
the next day I got the call to come back to work at the refinery for double of my previous pay (10 years prior), so I was off like a shot!

Wow, never realized you are an Asia hand! And are you still there today?
I was in Bkk in the 90's. I arrived there thinking I could stay 3 months if I stretched my budget really thin. Ended up staying 5 years. With no marketable skills other than speaking French and (passable) English, and demand was so high back then that they hired anybody, I found work. I ended up teaching the Thai military.
I enjoyed my time there immensely and often wish I went back for another spell. But it's become so touristy since then...

the jobs I did got nationalized, aka only hiring local talent
I took some more risky & backbreaking jobs for a while, but I decided to pack it in on the last one when I had to be rescued from a Chevron tanker when I passed out from heat exhaustion
the money was good, but it's no good if you're dead
we were wearing stuff similar diving suits, because the air in those tanks is toxic

some friends went on to Vietnam, but those jobs dried up pretty quickly

Was on a cruise ship once. Had a classic rock group that was just blistering it. These guys were hot. When I heard them do a Journey tune that was spot on I had to meander up close to check em out. They were an Asian group. I fell in love with em on that cruise. Rock on!
