Just Put in my Audere Preamp....

Installed a new Pro JZ3 in my Roadworn Jazz yesterday. It sounded great in my living room but tonight it really delivered at a small venue with no pa support. I played through someone else's old crappy Peavey amp and, man, was I surprised. A good investment, for sure.

I installed an Audere and Nordstrand NJ5F pickups. The sound is great but with two notable issues. There is a loud click when changing the position of the Z-mode switch and, either pickup singled makes a LOT of noise. This is my second Audere. The first was V-V-stacked tone and the new one is V-blend-stacked tone. Same issues with both preamps. I've looked in this forum and people have mentioned the noise in the Nordstrands when singled. I'm going to try it with different p-ups and see what happens.

I have the Pro-JZ6D and Nordstrand NJ4SVs in a 2010 Am Dlx Jass. I found the stock pre-amp to be incredibly noisy (a problem with that year's builds that I understand has since been resolved), so the Audere seems dead quiet in comparison. But I do hear a faint hum through my amp (G-K MB500). Nothing noticeable in a band context; I can only hear it when I'm right next to cab in a quiet room. So I'm not noticing "noise" per se when soloing either the bridge or neck pup, although there is a change in the timbre of that background sound.

The click when turning the Z-knob (the Pro-JZ6D equivalent of the Z-switch) is definitely there. I step on my tuner pedal to mute before turning the knob, like I would when pulling a cable. Not that it's THAT loud, but it is definitely a clearly audible "pop".

I just installed an Audere JZ3 into my late 80s MIJ Jazz. Super easy to install, just have the proper tools (right size screwdriver and wire strippers) and it's a breeze. It was a bit of a tight fit with the battery plus wires, cramming everything into the cavity was actually the hardest part of the installation.

Loving it so far. Flat retains the sound of the instrument as if passive. Low mid and high boosts are smooth and subtle. Cranking them all they way results in totally usable tones.

I'm not finding much need to for Z switch. The low z sounds to me like a low and low mid boost, while the high sounds like it's boosting some highs while cutting mids and a little bass. I'm fine just using the eq and will keep this flat.

The simple solder-less install will also inspire me to try different pickups.

I wish there was an option for lefties as it's strange turning the knobs in the opposite direction, but it's not a huge deal, I acclimated to that pretty quickly.

Awesome tone from the 4 band Pro Z. I bought one for my personal J bass rebuild and David very kindly donated one for this theme bass which is being donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

I don't do clips myself, but maybe I can get my son to put some together during spring or summer break.

The setting possibilities are obviously endless. The one sound that is truly unique is the extra bridge pickup. It is astonishing how different it sounds vs the normal bridge position. It's a very very growly tone which is not of much use without a preamp. But it sounds really cool with the bass boosted.

No issues for me. I have a Big Muff and a VT bass. The VT is more used as a preamp that adds a little color and the Big Muff is in the fx loop.

You're very welcome, that's what these forums are all about! :)

The modular one you see a lot of pictures above is the type you want to go with, the one in my review was made specifically as a drop-in for jazz style control plates. 4-bands of EQ shaping might be a bit much for a single P pickup, but more options can't hurt...and at these prices you can definitely afford to.
