Until roughly March of this year, I played in a rockabilly band that had been going not-so-strong for close to 8 or 9 years. We weren't very good, didn't sound very professional and had a typical prima donna singer.
He was the main cause of the issues we faced and the reason why the band finally imploded when the guitarist decided to leave. We would suggest new songs and he would either not learn them or try them once, then say "No, it's not working. Let's try *insert random Mike Ness song here* instead".
Anyway, the guitarist moved on to a very, very good originals act that is going strong and building a following. I moved on to a blues band with potential, that is slowly going places, and the drummer joined the army. I don't hear much from the singer and am sure neither of the other two have heard anything at all.
Last weekend I was at a gig of the guitarist's new band, and we talked about how we missed the rockabilly thing. One thing led to another and we decided to form a sort of project/band with the drummer and with the singer of the originals act (who is good, by the way). The idea is to just book a show, rehearse a few times for it and then see what comes next. Handful of shows a year at best.
Whilst we immediately agreed to pick a new name and change the set list a bit (finally get to pick some songs we always wanted to do) I realised that we basically made the douchy split-and-reform move, rather than fire the singer. And okay, different name, slightly different set list and we will rework some arrangements, but still ... Douchy
