Just received my Ray34...

I've owned an SR5 and an SR4 and interestingly I didnt find any string imbalance issues on the SR5 but I noticed it slightly on the SR4. I had a go on another player's SR4 and it was even more noticible on his.

I recently got a G&L trib L2000 and the G string on that is a little quieter that the others but the cool allen-wrenchible pickup pole pieces helped out. Try put up with the weight, it will only contribute towards a better sounding instrument.

My Ray34 doesn`t have either of those problems. The first thing I check when I first tried these basses out was the pickups volume across all strings and every one I`ve tried has been dead even(something most US Rays can`t even say) - I hate to say it but it sounds like you got a lemon.

I also can`t say the weight is a problem. It might be a hair heavier than my US Ray, but it`s lighter than the Marcus Miller 4-string I owned... by a lot.

I`d also add that the neck isn`t as chunky as a US Ray which is really nice.

hi all,
just got my ray34 (natural color) about a week ago. i love it. great tone/look/playability, especially for the price (~540 from amazon)...but here're a couple of minor problems.

- the frets are slightly jagged. when i run my left hand up and down the fretboard, i can feel the frets extending from the bottom of the neck near the G string. in other words, the area where my fingers connect to my palm will get scratched up as i move the hand up and down the neck. i'll probably try to file these myself.
- the action is set a bit high but this is probably just preference. i played the same model at a local guitar center and the action was perfect, but the bass i ordered was set up higher.
