Double Bass just started

I just started DB a couple months ago (after ages of BG) and using Simandl and mixing in other things a little, Simandl is my main study material. I would say Simandl needs a teacher to go with with it there are so many technique issues that teacher can spot, explain, and correct. Even good teachers can be tough to find.

I started with one teacher and he had me flying through pages of Simandl. I my sound wasn't improving, my bowing stunk, and I would express my frustration and just get "you're doing better". I got other books and some video and was fixing my own problems. I then got another teacher, a BG teacher I knew had an grew up playing DB and in one lesson fixed so many things in bowing, fingerings, and on and on. He has me going back to beginning of Simandl and focusing on playing correctly. So much to think about playing DB compaed to BG.

Get a teacher so much more to DB than books talk about and get a big mirror. You spot problem with a mirror that you can't see standing next to the bass.
