Hi !

I have spent so much time thinking about
what the best 5-string choice would be.

I just can´t decide...yet...

I can spend up too about 5000 usd.

I have thought about Fender jazz V, EBMM Stingray, Sterling, Bongo V, Yamaha BB NE2, MTD 535, Lakland 55-94,
Sadowsky Metro, Sandberg JJ, Fodera NYC, Status, Modulus, Zon. To name a few :)

There are to many nice and buyable basses, but if you only want ONE, and the one has to be REALLY good.

What bass would you buy ?

Considering you have quite small hands, likes 19 mm spacing, enjoys jazzbas and stingray sound and want
a bass that cuts through a mix without problems from a angry mixerguy.

Would be nice to hear your thoughts.

Sadowsky's a good choice. I love mine. It weights about 7.6 lbs

Roscoe is it! After 4 Laklands, 5 Warwicks, 1 MTD, 2 Pedullas, 6 Fenders, 1 Modulus, 2 Carvins, and 1 Sadowsky (Metro).. I've found the absolute cure for GAS in Roscoe!

You'll get to keep some of your cash as well.. Mine cost me less than $4k!

"What bass would you buy?" and "Tell me what 5-string *I* should buy" are two very different questions ;)

I have smaller hands, like 19mm spacing, love a Stingray tone and a cut-through-the-mix persona to my basses. I mostly use Line6 Variaxes, though. In the past, I've owned, among others... Spector NS-5, Modulus Q5, Fender American Standard Jazz V, Fender American Deluxe P5... There are a ton of options and it really all boils down to personal preference.

I know this doesn't help much, but you just have to play a lot of basses and see what you like and what you don't. Sometimes this involves buying them, spending a few months or years with them, and then moving on. Sometimes you know right away by playing it for 10 seconds in a store that it's not for you. As your tastes boil down, you'll be able to tell better and better what you like and what you don't without playing it first, or could even go the custom route.

The basses you listed above are all very nice instruments and many are very, very different from one another. Many of us on Talkbass here own and are happy with one or more of those and passionately dislike some of the others. If you like a Modulus, you'll probably like a Status, Zon, Stingray, and MTD. If you like a Jazz, you'll probably like a Sadowsky, Sandberg JJ, Fodera NYC, etc. You might consider buying two basses, one "modern" and one "vintage" (a lot of us here do that): Something like an MTD or Modulus, and then also something like a Fender or Sadowsky.

With the exchange rate the way it is, you might be able to pick up some deals on used instruments from right here on the Talkbass classifieds. Try out some basses and see what you think! There is no right or wrong answer.

My first thought was Sadowsky M5-24. My second thought was MTD 535. Good luck!

One thing to consider is how much purchasing power $5000 USD has *in Sweden.* Because of taxes, import tariffs, etc, it may be a lot less than you think. I know that in some places, a MIM Jazz costs about $1500 just because of these add-ons. This would be something to find out before you start shopping!

If you are buying used (where dealer territory agreements and some of these taxes don't apply), and the seller offers international shipping, that's another story.
