You could do it that way, but why own a warehouse full of mediocre-at-best basses?

When I read the first post I thought "Why spend all $5000 on ONE bass?". With that kind of money I'd much rather get 3 (give or take 1) really nice basses so I'd end up with a wide variety of classic tones and feels. Buying used, you could even stretch that $5000 across FIVE great quality, great sounding, and great playing basses!

Unfortunately, I know NOTHING about $5000 basses, so I can't make any good suggestions about what's worthwhile in that elite stratum.

Have Chris Stambaugh build you a bass- he can help you pick out woods and electronics that will suit your needs and build it however big or small you want. And you can get a cool inlay- like a snail that's also a bass clef! Don't do that one though, it's mine!!!

Plus- you would have enough money to get a killer 4 string or fretless too!!!

You have several options at that price. I HIGHLY reccomend a Jerzy Drozd though.
