Jxxxxx from Guitar Center

So, apparently you gave him your email address when you checked out with your purchase.
Then were surprised when he followed up the sale with a promotional email?
Sorry, I'm not seeing the justification for the GC beat down. The guy is doing his job
and, obviously, you have to have provided the contact info...they don't just pull your email address
out of thin air.

you could have just clicked the unsubscribe option on the email and taken the high road.

The guy's name is in one of those links you posted.

Yeah, we're supposed to send those emails to everybody we sell to but I only send them to customers I actually conversed/connected with and they typically seem to be pleased about it... partially because I am lazy and partially to avoid situations like this.

I took his name out.

You guys all do understand this thread is intended as HUMOR, correct? It's dry humor, so I didn't want to put it in the humor section, as that would make it try too hard.

Jxxxxxxx knows what he's doing. He's a salesperson, and his job is to sell. But he is paid for that, and so he has to take whatever lumps come with it.

Been there, done that.

And another thing. I don't "love" any rep from any company where I am keeping them in business by spending my hard-earned money. I am the customer, and they work for me. If they don't serve me well, I will spend my money somewhere else. THAT'S THEIR JOB.

My one-lined response, "freak" was intended to be a joke. It's a very mild insult, and doesn't even really mean anything, especially coming from me, a long-haired 50 year old.

I swear, I run into more concerned schoolmarms and Boy Scouts on the internet sometimes...

I got something similar after I bought a bass. Didn't bother me. In fact, I liked it, felt like I had a direct connection to someone in the store to keep in touch with if cool used gear comes in etc..

Now, that person has not responded to 2 emails I sent him but that is another story . . .

That's because he is NOT your friend. Everything he says that sounds friendly is FAKE.

And there's a chance he is evil.

I get mildy annoyed when sales people try to be all buddy like, call me by first name, asking borderline personal questions and so on. You're not my buddy, I don't know you, please keep it business like. If we happen to talk some more and have an actual conversation, fine, but don't act as if we're life-long friends the first time we meet, I'm liable to turn around and walk out the door when such obvious fakery is used as a sales trick.

/End of old guy grumpy rant. :)

The kind of automated email you got doesn't bother me though, I just hit the delete button.

Will echo the bit about Sweetwater. A personal flaw of mine is I hate talking on the phone, to anyone. I order online as much as possible, and have ordered 2 small parts from Sweetwater. Yes, they send candy, but they also call a bunch, just to makes sure I'm okay. It's great customer service, but I don't like it. Just never pick up the phone.

In 2002 I bought a guitar at GC. About a month later, I received a postcard from the sales rep I had dealt with. He wrote something like "Hope you're enjoying the Ovation!" Nice and simple, and no attempts to induce me to apply for a GC card. Maybe they should go back to this practice.
