Kala Ubass Megathread, Part 1

Got my Ubass a month ago, mahogany fretless. Can I get a number too, please?

Hey, I didn't know they were giving out numbers, I'll take one also. Full Mahogany acoustic electric U-bass WITH official Planet Waves Tiki Head strap and Ashdown EVO 300 MagII 2x10 combo set to DB tone. God I love this thing, makes playing everything from Johny Cash to Nirvana songs fun.

Not sure if you've seen this Kala demo yet but if you're looking for flexibility in a bass think about one of these pedals (fender sublime fuzz) it transforms the Kala DB tone into something worthy of an Alice-n-Chains tune.

Just watched it all. Very nice tour of some of what can be done with it.

I wish mine was a different color. I've got the spruce - because it was the least expensive. I get my urge for some color will be satisfied when I finally get the solid body.

Good idea. I might have an experienced and competent person (i.e. not me!) do that to my HH.

My spruce fretless is a fretted with the frets ground off (grinded off?) and the side dots moved up the neck.

Nicely done! Looks much better than mine. Is that a tab you left (on the treble side) for easy removal?

It could have been tidier, but it will do.

Your silicone lid idea was a home run.

Yes - I left the treble side that way for easy removal.
The top and bottom are the lowest - to stay out of the way of the strings.
The bass side has a little more in case I want to lean my thumb near there.
And then the treble side has the most. It made sense to me.

It's a very interesting video. My personal conclusion:

- Acoustically, the thunderguts were noticeably louder, sounding very nice.

I try to play more with the sides than the tips of my fingers to reduce that twang, and it's worse on the Thunderguts.

I thought some of you might get a kick out of my band leader's initial response to me telling him I was going to be using the UBass at the next gig:

"I don't know about that.
We need a real bass for rock & roll don't we?
I know u like small instruments, but the sound is important.
**drummersname** isn't going to play soft, especially on NY Eve. You might want to bring along the other bass."
