Aquila is a pretty small company - just a few employees. I believe the company head and designer of the Red's had an accident with the machinery making the Reds. Might have to be patient people.

I remember reading something about that. I hope he's ok. I wish him all the best, but I'm a very impatient 30 year old boy.

I just got my Hog fretless today. I have the same hum issue. :crying: Any resolution ?? I called Kala, leaving a voicemail message. But I assume that it will take time to hear back from them. I would hate to send this back if it is something really simple. Yet, I don't want to prolong things either. Suggestions anyone??

Hi

I have nerve damage and can not use my small fingers on both hands.I've never had a bass lesson as such .I've learned to play the bass using my four fingers on my left hand.I have a solid body Ubass that I have been trying to get use to.Does an upright bass player have to use all four fingers on his left,fretting hand.With the Ubass do you think I can get by without using my little finger .Not using my little finger seems to make playing more difficult ,and makes my playing harder and slower ,but at least I'm still playing.I don't want to stop playing.At almost 70 it gives me a great deal to do and look forward to.The band I'm in plays 2 to 3 times a week and I'm trying to keep up with the rest of the group who are somewhat younger.Any idea's on getting around playing with all four fingers on my left fretting hand would be appreciated.

I, like you, learned extended fingerings for the bass. For me the benefit of the UBass is that it allows me using the extended fingeringsm which had become impossible on the upright.

As I get it there is a school of fingerings where the ring finger is considered the supporter of the pinkie so that there really only are 3 fretting fingers. This takes many more shifts of position, but there must be tutors available for this fretting style, which must be applicable for you.

@Davesound, like you I am in my late 60's and am having left hand finger issues. I just had the middle joint of my middle finger on my left hand replaced with a plastic joint. The finger is making a left turn when I bend it and I am wearing a cast to try to correct it. Recently on Talkbass someone posted a link to a youtube vid of someone with no hands (or legs) playing the bass it was very encouraging to say the least. And then a proud father posts a vid of his 12 year old son playing at a Guitar Center with a drummer this kid has wonderful chops and understanding of music that a lot of adults do not understand.

Keep on plucking more and enjoy it as well.

There will only be the mahogany bass guitar no spruce. It is available in the US sometime in September and yes they will have a lined fretless. I believe the price will be around $400.00.

I owned one. The preamp is fairly useless. Turning the tone up gives you finger noise and hiss. Volume controls is ok i guess, and the tuner....well don't we all have tuners? So with the new model, what you get is a ubass that's no good to you on a gig if the batteries die and you don't happen to have two watch batteries on you. It was a complete waste of kala's resources, time and money that should have been spent on more useful innovations to the acoustic, all in my humble opinion.

I'd love an acoustic the same scale as the MIA solid body. I'd love a second strap pin. Maybe strings that are stable and not sticky. Maybe an unlined fretless option. Volume, tone and a tuner isn't something I was interested in.

If I was in the market for an acoustic, I'd look for preamp-less models on eBay. There's a bunch. Or a guy named 3234718 might be selling his fretless in the classifieds.

Hi

Today was the first time I was able to hear my Ubass with our band.It sounded GREAT!!. I've been having trouble playing my Fender Squier Short Scale because nerve damage to my left hand.I can play every song we do,with only using three fingers on my left hand.Standards,R&R,you name it ,it sounded good on all types of music.It worked,sounded and played great! I liked playing bass again because I'm not struggling.I'm having fun.


My main concern is how do you turn the pre-amp,or the bass off.If I leave it plugged into my amp is the battery being drained.Anyone know please let me know.

That's a good question. I don't think you can turn it off and I don't know if leaving it plugged in drains power. I know turning the tuner on turns off the sound, but then the tuner is on.

Hi

I called Kala.Per them the battery is draining as long as the guitar has a plug in it.So I had mine sitting for a couple weeks plugged in ,not using it all the time,just draining the battery.That should be stated in the Manuel somewhere


Also I got my Ubass thinking it would fit into any song that an upright would play.Last night I did some songs With m band,that are usually done by an electric.The Ubass sounded great.I think I can use it on all the music we do.Of course we don't do Hard Rock,or anything close to that.We do standards ,40 to 70 music.Don't know about anything other then that.

I am not really in the market. Ubass is one of those things I am constantly going back and forth on. This time around thinking about it is because it was suggested as a way to play these next few months after bicep surgery. But I would have to sell a toy to get it and I just cant think of what I would give up for a ubass.

Kala u-bass tweed case with a small block of foam to brace the long horn works for me.
