Key Signatures, something I dont quite understand

My orchestra teacher explains it a pretty easy way: all you have to do is know the order of the sharps and flats. In a sharp major key the last sharp in the key signature is the leading tone of the major scale. So in D maj scale the key signature is F#C#, C# is the leading tone to D maj. And for a flat scale, the 2nd to the last note in the key sig is the tonic of the major scale. So in B-(pretend -=flat)maj scale the key sig is B-,E-.
Order of the Sharps: F#C#G#D#A#E#B#
Order of flats: B-E-A-D-G-C-F-
Notice the order of the sharps and flats are reverse of each other.
This is a pretty easy way to know w/out knowing too much theory.

I just thought when I signed up for this forum it would be full of more intelligent questions like "what scale degree (of major and minor scale) is a neapolitan 6th chord built on?" not stuff like "what is a key signature" or "what's the bottom string called again?" sorry, but it's cool dude. everyones got to start somewhere
like this one time I took my Clodzilla down to the local RC track. I cold crushed them stupid road wanks, I used them bozos for speedbumps, they told me I couldn't race it even though I had slicks on it.

All right I'll bite, Go to the top where it says My talkbass then click edit profile and DELETE.
I was going to say that if you'd all just learn a little keyboard,sharps and flats would be much clearer,but that would be almost as obnoXious as a really long signature so I won't say it

Man why you all ragging on me! Every time I go to change my sig it just says page not dispalyed. A lot of the bassisist I hang with are deep into musical theory. And of course wave mechanics and math go hand and hand, I thought this might help some of the kids who are just getting a base or don't understand key signature's and stuff. Geez! I'm sorry can someone help me get this changed? I know I got a little upset on this post but sometimes I have kids coming up to me right in the middle of a song asking "Dude, what if I tune my wires like this and blah blah blah...", it gets tiring, I'm sorry I went off on that one chick like that. But I have to say that one dude who says he's going 70-100mph in some home made hot water heater go kart is full of it! My boy and I also made one out of a hot water heater and we can barely get 50MPH out of it (thats with the wind to our backs!)!! 
IM 15, been playing double bass for 4 years, and i got key signatures down pretty good.

BMX - To change your signature, click on the My Talkbass button on the navigation bar at the top of the page.
It will open a page that says Talkbass Forums > User Control Panel for Bass Master X
On that page, click on the Edit Profile hyperlink near the top of the page.
This will open a page that says Talkbass Forums > User Control Panel for Bass Master X > Edit Profile
The Signature field is the 5th field in the Optional Information section of your profile. Anything in the Signature field will appear in your signature. Once you make the changes that you want in your Signature, click the Submit Modifications button at the bottom of the page.
If you know them so well, why don't you HELP OUT or PARTICIPATE IN THE DISCUSSION. The able-minded should help the others.
