Key West? What to do?

South Beach, Smathers Beach, CB Harvey Beach Park, Monroe County Beach ... on the Atlantic side. Many others just north of KW, on the causeways.

I heard they did work along the shores of Florida and added lots of sand. Was this part of that project? Last time I was there was there long enough to go beach hunting was about 4 years ago. And I'm nearly certain there were no beaches of that sort 25 years ago.

I gotta say, though, when I was at Smather's Beach last time there was some red seaweed and the entire area reeked to high heaven. I can't imagine what those folks paying $500+/night at the Sheraton or Hyatt thought about it. :( We had a nice little place right on Truman Ave, a couple blocks north of Duval. Key Lime Inn. We had a standalone unit, and enjoyed many Margueritas (and other intoxicants) sitting on the private deck.

Two days in and having a blast. Went fishing today. Saw creatures I've never seen and some I've not heard of. Hooked a shark twice. Got him up to the top once, but cut my line both times. We didn't have any steel leaders. Oh well. Had to get an eel out of the bait trap. That was trippy. Two lobsters came back on the boat. Us! Something about being alone with another man on a boat and asking him to rub sunscreen on my back didn't quite feel comfortable. ...I'll totally ask next time! I'm so burnt!

Just got back home. Yay. Snow.
Thanks for all of your suggestions. I had a great time down there. Mostly just fished and drank a lot. Went to Mallory square and watched the street performers and then hit Duval St. a couple of times. Went to Big Pine for lunch at the No Name Pub. That was an interesting place. Got to see the air show with the Blue Angels. We took the boat out for that, it was great. So was key lime pie. And I found this little Cuban restaurant on Stock Island. The best tamales I've ever had. And their coffee was amazing. I drank a lot of it. It was my hangover remedy.
I did so much I can't remember it all, but thanks again everyone for all of your suggestions. Much appreciated.

Did you hang a dollar at the No Name Pub?

Or see any deer?
