I almost posted about this last night myself. So weird for the first time you hear of a new pedal to be long after they're all sold out. But I'd love to try one - I was shocked that the demo made me want to try a KHDK pedal.

Sounds great but I'm personally wondering what people think about the whole "limited to 100" thing. Why limit? Is this a sign that boutique pedal companies are only willing to stick their neck out now for these limited editions, then gauge the demand and make more? I don't know, but I'm curious how people are responding to pedals that you virtually need a lottery ticket to obtain.

I assumed it was limited because they're all handmade (I imagine the KHDK line is otherwise not) and because it was this niche promo with the coffee company. But who knows? It's definitely a bunch of crap that they did such a small run, if it's a good pedal that would be successful at a larger quantity at lower pricepoint. (No idea what the actual price point is/was BTW)

Bassic Gear Reviews make everything sounds great!

Scarcity is by design to get people talking, especially since this brand isn't really on the radar for most bassists. It worked.

Lovin' the sound of this one. Will seriously consider the inevitable reissue.

Well well well. Awoke today to an email from Dave Karon (the DK in KHDK) saying they had a UB in stock - I had emailed them to just kind of inquire about it when I heard of the pedal. So I'm going to give it a shot.

The price BTW is not bad - it's like $35 less than a new B:Assmaster; that's kinda crazy for a limited-run pedal!

I can't afford to keep all the fuzzes, so it's gonna be a shootout!

EDIT got my tracking number this morning (10/29/18). Watched the BGR demo again. If it sounds like that in my rig (with compressor and preamp), I think it will be a winner!!!

Alrighty, it came in and I've only played with it for about 15 minutes thus far before having other things to attend to. More to come, but first impressions:
- It came with a 12 oz bag of the namesake coffee beans! and is the same size as the Hofner bass fuzz - way smaller than I thought!

(note: Running this through a Spectracomp set to "Rockwool" at about noon, then an MXR M80 with Color on but mids at 3:00 to counter the scoop, and into just the power section of my Rumble500)
- Low end seems to be retained if you crank the bass knob
- Flipping the Sludge switch to On adds some lows also, but also pushes the fuzz circuit with them, so it does pretty much what cranking the bass knob on the Hofner bass fuzz does.
- Flipping the Fat switch to On adds just a hint of extra mid presence, nothing drastic.
- Fuzz is thin/sharp, but has smoothness and power that I do like. You won't want to crank it up unless you like it way screamy. I'm finding the most success with the Fuzz control at 9:00 with the Boost switch (extra gain) Off, or Fuzz all the way down with the Boost switch On.
- Octave mode can be subtle, need to play with the octave tone knob to find a good spot - some settings make it quieter than regular mode.
- Octave mode also has an apparent gate to it.

So that is quickie thoughts, we'll see how it stacks up in the coming days!

Alrighty just another quick update for the evening.

Slight problem: a handful of times when I turned the pedal OFF, it killed my signal entirely. Potential footswitch issue; I’ve emailed KHDK about that. If this is one of the original 100 pedals and it came available last week, then I assume it’s a return, and it might have gotten banged around. Opening it up just shows circuit board bottoms, albeit with fairly neat solder blobs and little component legs all in nice little rows and columns.

I do like the sound but can’t tell if it’s got quite enough low end, hard to discern.

Pictures!

Here is a shot of the UB with its namesake coffee...

And a size comparison to the Hofner and the M80. The Hofner and UB are the same size, both just sliiiiiiightly smaller than the M80.

OK, guys, I did a little crap video shoot for the fuzzes I'm playing with, including the Unicorn Blood!

I know the audio is not great and the mic picks up my hands on the strings way too much (even though I was farther from it than the amp was) but it should give you a *relative* idea between the different types. I even have a decent mic - I just don't have like a direct interface or anything.

The whole thing is 15 minutes because I'm comparing all of the different dirt modes. UB audio starts at about 8 minutes.

Enjoy, hopefully!
