King Kong.

favorite line in the movie : "but will there be boobies?"
loved the movie, saw the original right before, there were a lot of subtle and not so subtle homages to it in the new one. all in all i thought it was awesome, although i think kong was anthropamorphised just a bit. he -did- act like a gorilla, a lot, but not a male. the various gorillas who have been shown to express the most human-like emotions were all female. male gorillas smash stuff up.
something to think about. a male gorilla can weigh well over 400 pounds. that's at about a max of 5' 9" tall.
kong was about 25 feet tall. that's about 4.4 times taller. that's 4.4 ^3 more massive. that's over 34,000 pounds.
that's a lot of monkey.

Too goddamn boring... Jack Black was the only decent one cuz he was funny/good acting suprisingly, the guy from orange county was okay (chracter was unkvlt though), the girl looked good, and the seacaptian was a cool character.
Everyone else overacted/sucked.
The story was too long and drawn out
The fight scene with the T-Rex's were cool, but honestly it felt like I was watching "Matrix: Revolutions" (anyone who's seen it knows which scene I'm talking about, the really boring one with the Mechs that lasted 20 minutes). This was a bit shorter and less explosive.
Peter Jackson can't direct to save his life... the ONLY thing that saved Return of the King (the only decent LOTR) was the fact that there was so much great stuff to work with that it would be near-IMPOSSIBLE to mess it up.
But this had nothing going for it but some good cast members and some cool visual effects. And a little thing called the Star Wars Prequels shows us that some cool cast members + good visual effects =/= make a movie.

All i can say is.....It was WAY too long for me....jesus, three and a half hours.....i was so close to walking out. But the middle was really cool. I didn't care much for the begging or end.

187 mins. 3 hours. certainly a long time to expect a 15 year old to sit still these days

i can understand, though, that some younger folks might not enjoy the philosophical aspects - takes too long to get to the good stuff.

I saw about 2 hours of it, but I had to leave directly after the T-rex and King Kong fight, unfortunitly. Can anyone post a spoiler for me so I know what happens at the end of the movie?

as far as the actual movie goes...
i'd have to say it was as big and dumb as the titular mega-ape.
the action sequences were exhausting and fake--you could almost see the green screen during the apatosaurus stampede. there were about three too many action scenes in a row...
naomi watts, as gorgeous as she was, had a rather ambiguous relationship with kong. was he her pet to her? or was he more? and vice versa.
jack black was good as the unctuous movie producer... but...

the closing line of the movie is him saying, "it was beauty killed the beast."
yeah... or it was mankind's desire to exploit a (rather unbelievable) marvel of nature for profit--if jack black's character just let him be on the island, the sucker wouldn't have died!
and i highly doubt that we are supposed to take his words in any other word than straight-on, otherwise peter jackson wouldn't have ended his movie with'em.

anyway... blaaaah.
see chronicles of narnia. the cg isn't quite as good and naomi watts isn't in it, but everything else... much better.
i'll end on a joke:
when the characters discovered the giant monkey-print in the ground, one of them says, "only one creature can make a footpring this big."
during the dramatic pause, i said to my brother, "adrien brody's nose."

My thoguhts exactly... just look at the previews. I enjoyed the balance between Giant Money Throw-down and introspective drama. Jack Black was humorous for obvious reasons, but he still did ok with teh role. It was like School of Rock except he hijacked a boat and movie instead of a Bus and Concert.
Great movie.

Peter Jackson has been obsessed with KK since he was nine. For him, it was one of those "life-changers". It's been his dream to film this movie, and he wanted to end the movie with the closing line from the original version.
It was his intention to have the original actress who had Naomi Watts' role to make an appearance at the end of the movie, just to deliver that line. She was 95 years old, or thereabouts. Unfortunately, he died just before that could be filmed.
As cheesy as the line may sound to some, it has a certain amount of significance.

alright, then. my gripe with that line is now with the original screenwriters.

It was what I expected. An entertaining, easy to watch movie. I prefer movies that make you think, but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing it again to pick it apart.
