KNOB MODIFICATION

Active EMG 45DC Double Humbuckers, Awesome choice! And on a fanned fret also, SWEET!

Thanks, it's a brice defiant that I modded. The build quality on it was really good, but I hated the boring satin finish, and wanted emg's. I'm loving it

Hey Alex, I've always run DC pickups with out much else in the processing. recently I added a VMC for time my external EQ wasn't convenient.

Do you do anything else to your signal? Head? Cab? Strings?

good question my friend.. i really dont do a whole lot to be honest.. although i do run a couple effects but nothin major as far as settings.. i kee the effects very subtle.. and thats sent through the looping system i have which is the fxconnectx stage pro 8 which you can find here [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] ,, the head is a 1200 carvin bx1200.. cabs are hartke's.. my strings are dunlop super bright stainless steels.. but i do use the nickel too..

when it comes to eq.. i really only use that depending on the room im playing in.. other than that i adjust the controls on the bass.. my external eq is an mxr m101 10 band. .

the variable mid control makes your lows and highs stand out pretty good.. a good option if your external eq isnt convenient

One thing I've always loved about the emg's is how consistent they are. I don't care if I'm plugging into a passive DI and going right into a house main, or I'm playing through my own rig, I still sound like "me"

The VMC just makes that part a little easier, the only thing I was doing with my EQ was giving the low mids a little boost, so now I can do that on board. It's a great system that can make cheap basses soundd great, and great basses sound amazing. Not sure why they don't get the "buzz" they deserve

agreed ! on both counts of consistency and convenience of the vmc.. the low kids on the eq are actually flat the mids are slightly scooped and the highs are slightly boosted.. if i need more bottom i adjust that from my bass.. my over all settings on my eq has proven to be universal.

making cheap basses sound great is very true.. my first bass was a gsr 200.. i still have it and play it.. i put emgs in a year later.. was hooked with sound.. but much later it sat for awhile because i swapped the emgs out into another bass.. then recently i brought it back to life with the emg pjx series.. passive feel but active punch !.. the ATC (active tone control) really added alot to it.. a pure grand slam

Those knobs look generic enough that you could easily find identical enough replacements on any number of guitar parts sites.

not with this finish bud.. havent been able to find these anywhere.. the fact that these knobs go to a rare bass is what is one reason why im trying to keep continuity of it being factory spec.. this came stock with emg circuitry, im just puttin in an updated emg pup system to it

hello fellow low enders..

im about to install an dual emg 35dc system into my schecter c4 xxx bass (no longer in production) now.. the knobs have a distinct finish to them, cant be replaced. and to keep from putting other knobs on there.. ultimately i want to keep it as close to factory spec as i possibly can as far as the cosmetics go

all im doing is changing the pups

the shafts from the pots on the emg system are solid shaft. the holes on the knobs are split shaft however, they do like they would fit the emg pots that are provided.. do you think if i used a dremel at low speed to smooth out the knob hole enough to fit the emg smooth shaft nicely ?

Those knobs are available almost anywhere, not distinctive at all, just order new knobs, You could than part out your splined set screw knobs at a profit. Here they are a Carvin, in case you need two different sized knobs:

i have not seen the specific knobs anywhere to be honest.. i have only seen them on the shechter c4xxx.. as for carvin.. i will not do or give business of any kind to them, myself and several others that i work with in the industry have very bad blood with that company and directly with a few of the people that work there.. but i do thank you for the resource.
