Know It Alls

I'm enrolled in a legal graduate program, to obtain my Paralegal certification, going on 3 months now. It's a year long program, but I got into a high intensity program to complete it within 5 months.

2/3 of the class is women EDIT: (quick count - 8 men and 35 women in class), and I find at least half of them to be know it alls.

Whenever I ask a question, a gaggle of them jump to answer or respond. They interrupt the Professor, many times never even giving him/her a chance to respond. I am becoming beyond annoyed. The men in the class have never jumped in to respond.

I haven't said anything and just eat it - what am I going to do, tell them it wasn't them I asked the question of and create instant discomfort? I've just been letting it go, even though I steam inside for a good 5 minutes.

Because of this, I have been noticing Know It Alls everywhere I go now, and I realize just how much I hate them. They need constant reassurance of their "knowledge" to ease their feelings of insecurity. HATE them. Takes every ounce of my energy to be polite and appear to be listening, even though I want to respond rudely.

I HATE this. In the classroom, you have to sit there and quietly seethe. Everyone has to prove how much they already think they know. We're probably sitting there 20-30 minutes than we need to because people won't shut up and let the teacher teach.

I had the same problem in psychology -.- Within the last couple of weeks when you are for sure about to graduate you should just make that smart ass comment just to blow off some steam X) if not than continue to vent on a bass forum lol

I think we all have to deal with this at times. I have to go to meetings about once a month for an organization I help lead. There are only 5 of us but one person does most of the talking. If you bring anything up she has no problem interrupting you and talking endlessly. She is one of those people who seemingly can talk without pausing for a breath. Sometimes she makes incorrect assumptions about what I am saying, interrupts me and spends the next twenty minutes correcting me. Evertything leads to and endless boring story. This month it ends one way or another. I am going to address it with her one more time and if it continues unabated I'm not going to waste my time in these "meetings" anymore.

Sometimes I will mutter "If I only had a gag right now" or "The last time I saw a mouth like that it had a hook in it." And of course one of my favourite quotes from Foghorn Leghorn. "Yap, yap, yap. Mouth like a cannon, always shootin' it off."

Well, I think that it being only women was partly due to there being an overwhelming amount of women in the class compared to me.

But TBH, I do tend to notice it more in women than I do men. And it's at least noteworthy that a man has not done that in class so far, a full 3 months in.

Op you're not getting your money's worth if the professor never answers the question. I hope you get your answers. I don't mind thanking erudite or pedantic people for thir input; just make sure you also hear from the professor. If he's not answering or allowing them to hijack the course he's not doing his job.
