The method is pretty much the same as any other inlay, it's just more time consuming due to the hardness of the material... I just cut some lengths of stainless steel rod into small pieces, drill a hole, add some superglue, tap the rod into the hole leaving it slightly proud and when it's dry I use a file to make it flush.

How did you do the initial backwards curve for the heel? Template and half-round router bit?

EDIT: Also, are those the brass inserts from Axminster? Ive heard the brass ones are a little soft for maple and stainless steel is a better choice... wondering how you got on with them!

I bolt the neck in place and use the body to guide the router bit, I use a bearing guided round nose cutter. As for the inserts... I sell them myself on the UKGB Forum, they're made from zinc alloy not brass, they're solid as a rock :)

shaping the neck gives me the most pride out of the whole building process'during my latest build(les paul style for myself) i actually got a little choked up because it just felt so right to me and i knew this is what i have to do for my life
