Kubicki club, part 2

I have to say as a long time Phil Kubicki devotee - as much of an innovator and master of bass design as he was - he also did cool finishes on his baby. I missed having the sort of conversations w/him inquiring about such… by not much - he had just moved back east when I was ready to buy him lunch in Santa Barbara. Life is all about timing.

Reporting! Picked it up today. Really nice guy. He said he got offers from all over the place, Italy, Argentina, Virginia... But he didn't want to go through the hassle of shipping.
The bass is not in mint condition, several dings, but nothing major, in excellent shape overall. The mechanics and electronics are flawless, frets are very much intact and it is super clean.
It came with Kubicki strings but they were too old for my taste so I put on a new set of Slinkys I had at home. I had to tighten up the truss rod, it had quite a bit of relief, it worked great. Also I have a light touch so I was able to lower the action a good deal. I'll work on intonation tomorrow, didn't have a good tuner around today.
Case is in great shape and all the paperwork is there, original receipt and manual.
Really happy with the purchase. Now on to sell more stuff on the classifieds...

Hello guys! My 1st post here...

I have a 18v pre-FCS (1989) Ex-Factor and the intonation screws are a bit stripped (they were already when I bought the bass, someone in the past probably used a wrong screwdriver). Anyone had the same problem?
Is there any way to buy Factor parts to replace that screws?

Parts can be ordered thru Mike Haney 'The Guitar Doctor'. Just search that term and his name and you'll get a website to contact him.

Hi Gents,

I'm one of the guys in MA. With a 86 Factor in Bahama Green. I couldn't stand the thought of selling it so I pulled the ad, bought a fretless neck off Mike Haney.... Yes, I kept the fretted neck, and fell even more in love with this thing.
Sounds and plays amazing!

Seriously though how sweet would it look between a blue burst and burgundy burst?
Phil did some really amazing stuff with design and color.
missing the man today.

I'll spare you from posting a picture of the uber rare quilt top tie dye burst then. He he he.

Good luck. Even plain white doesn't pop up very often.

Yeah I wouldn't go out of my way to acquire one myself. Think I just like em all. From the mint Ferrari to the beat down Charger. Yes I did see that one. Got a few chunks missing out of it. "Character" my offer (if I was in search of that particular one) would be a bit less than the asking price. You know what's on my wish list. ;)
