Kubicki club, part 2

Did anyone here get an order placed for t-shirts or hats? I placed an order with Jewel, sent my info, a little correspondence back and forth, then nothing. My paypal was not invoiced. I emailed her back for status but have not heard back. Anyone else? I'm thinking that she won't bill until she receives the stuff.

Ok, I've gone a little overboard with my purchases lately so unfortunately, I've got to offer my Bahama Green 1985 Ex-Factor up for sale. It's one of the lightest Kubickis I've owned at only 8 1/2 lbs. Someone had changed the electronics out :rollno:, but it's now been restored to its full Kubicki glory with new pickups, 18v preamp and knobs directly from Kubicki. :thumbsup:

$2300 shipped w/ hardshell case. I'm not looking to make any money off this - just trying to not lose my shirt from what I have into it and pass along a great bass at a fair deal.

I have a break in the schedule and want to take the time to sort out a couple of things on my Factors. My 9v Bass has what most would consider very old, 1 yr+ DR Pure Blues and My 18v Bass has new, 3mo Kubicki Nickels. The 9v Bass is quite a bit louder and is fuller sounding than the 18v Bass, referenced at the top active setting on both Basses. I find myself gravitating to the 9v Bass more often. So I'm wondering, is there an inherent vast difference between the two preamps, or do the Kubicki strings just sound thinner than the DRs. I know a lot of things tonewise are going to be subjective to a whole slew of other factors. I'm just asking what others experience has been. I'm leaning towards replacing the strings on the 9 volter just because it's due, but don't want to lose that depth and fullness that I've gotten use to. At the same time , I need to see what needs to be done to the 18v Bass to bring out the depth, fullness, and overall volume level to match the 9 v Bass.

The only take I have on it relates to the 9v having a mid-pot adjuster on the harness. (that the 18v doesn't have) Perhaps it has been dialed out of a neutral position which would normally match the 18v. Personally I'm still not totally clear on the difference an 18v makes in general over a 9v system - "more head-room" is what is most often described and not 'more volume'. The extra 'click' of his 18v system is another passive setting so it doesn't seem to relate to the need for 9 more volts for 'one more (passive) click'. Those with more knowledge regarding the 18v advantages please feel free to chime in.

Strings can have an effect for sure so as a test string-up both basses w/the same brand/model of strings and new batteries all around might be a place to start. I've owned both versions (18v/9v) and prefer the latter as I rarely if ever used the passive settings. I have the 9v Kubicki/Fender pre in a non-Factor bass and it roars but I recall the 18v Factor I owned being equally 'present'. :bassist:
