All this renewed talk of ExFactors here lately has got my palms all sweaty again. I shouldn't be needing another one. Both of mine are in great shape, a 9 and an 18. And both now have great OHSCs (thanks Scott). Still I want to at least check out a non FCS just to see what all the fuss is about.
Are you saying your 18V is an 1989 FCS? I'd be interested in the serial #. Mine is 1604 07 89. It's my white one and my main player.

As far as my 93 Phil build goes. I can say it's a solid instrument. What sets it apart for me is the fact the neck is strait as an arrow. It's sealed beautifully. The truss rod adjustment is smooth and moves precisely. All the saddles and tuners have identical tensions. I can slam all four strings right to the board without fear of buzzing. Bend notes anywhere without fretting out. Yeah you can tell Phil put it together.
The main reason my white one is my main player is because it's my lightest Kubicki. It has this growl I've become accustomed to. It's a real player.
The 93 is too pristine to leave the house. I've never giged with it.
Even my 9V isn't getting as much use lately cause I keep it tuned to D# for all "those" tunes but I've recently purchased a pitch shifter that so far has been working out.

Question.....does anybody here use Kubicki strings, and if so, do you cut down the core before installing them. I'm not crazy about so many wraps around the wheels.
I have nickels on one bass but Mike Lull installed so no idea. I do like them however.

I do not but I have a new set of kubicki stainless steels for sale if you want to try them..... when I change strings (any brand) I just cut them about 4 inches past the tuning knobs and that gets me exactly one time around
I use the nickels. Also, I have a set of DR Pure Blues on one that I really like. They're quite a bit darker sounding than the Kubickis but they've got some age to them.
