Kubicki club, part 2

Yeah, I'll pull the cover and check, but I'm fairly certain that the trim pot is cranked. Maybe that's all there is to it, and using the same strings. I really like the Pure Blues. A lot of people complain that they're lifeless, but I like my strings to have "matured" a bit. Hell, The TI flats on my P-Bass are 7 or 8 years old and I love them. The Pure Blues have a round core and feel nice and somewhat bendy. The Kubicki Nickels seem a bit stiffer but I like them OK. Plus I like giving Carla and Mike my business when I can.

I hear you - the Kubicki strings remind me of a phone conversation w/Phil about them. (in the late 90's?) I had shipped my Factor to him to do some work on it and included a new set of strings (can't recall which brand etc) for him to install. It was Saturday morning and I was on a bike ride far from home when I got the (cell-phone) call. He had just got the bass and must have opened the case to see what was needed straight away. Seeing the new set of strings - he decided to call me and address the subject right then! He launched into a dissertation educating me about why he thought his strings would offer the optimal tone/sound for his bass. It's not like he was attempting to sell me something - he was just that passionate about his baby and what he felt was the 'dot-on-the-i' to fully realize his design concept. Of course I had him install a set of his nickels and told him to leave the new set I had sent in the case. :)

Wish I had better response but i usually only use 1st position after mute on all my factors I can't say I notice any real volume difference between the two though maybe some more headroom on more aggressive playing but thats about it. I also string them all totally different to give each one its own voice. I like the elixer steels a lot, very gentle on frets, fingers and they suite ears fine. Sorry I don't have much information for you other then I like both pre amps and find the 1st position to be similar on both 9 and 18v

I am finding that I like the first position from mute as well. Wish the mute disconnected the battery though.

If one is diligent about unplugging, batteries do last a long time. When I read about those who 'hate' active basses stating short battery life… I have to laugh. Same people that leave the refrigerator door open and wonder why the milk is sour… :rolleyes:

I've been use to unplugging since I got my first Stingray in about 1980. Never have I had an instrument not keep a battery a year or more. Never have I had to replace a battery in a panic in the middle of a gig (which is more than I can say for the battery in my Fender stomp box tuner), and the only time I've had to replace a dead or dying battery in an instrument is on the one or two that have come to me that way from a seller. So it's all a matter of routine for me really. I probably replace my batteries in my regular gigging Basses more often than I should actually. I'm a bit OCD that way. I don't think I've measured many that were below 8v after pulling them.

Not generally a fan of purple - but that is hot! :thumbsup: It reminds me of my ongoing question when I see the Factor colours like this - how did they do that? As a participant in this biz - that is a artisan finish as far as sprayers go.
