I don't know about figured woods and these basses... Tastes differ I know, but the solid colour instruments look better to me. The wood grain obscures the stylish design.

Yah, good point. The Factor is a very elegant sculpted modern design even by today's standards. I do like spalted maple though - had this spalted & flamed (top) Parker Hornet 5'r at one time. It was a nice sounding/playing bass - I just don't play 5'rs.

I had 2 early Kubicki Ex factors, blueburst and burgandy burst.

I traded them both off because I was young, stupid and an idiot.

Another ExFactor I saw today, FCS listed for 5K. Not eBay either. IDK what the deal is but I have a charcoal FCS I’d let go for that in a heartbeat. There’s no doubt in my mind people have a falsely inflated idea of what these basses are actually worth in the real world.

Edit: I’d let go for half that

Supply and demand. People want to play the. Not many are around and you have to wait.
If money aint an issue and you see one, its probably going to sell for what ever

I don't think I've had enough coffee this am to understand this although I should...why do the notes on the neck stay the same when you "detune" the ex factor as opposed to a drop d tuner? is my Kona coffee making me dull?

Think of it in terms that it's not detuned...only that the 2 notes past the nut on the E string have been made available for our use. This has been an option on double basses for some time too, but I don't know for how long.
