Kubicki club?

Exactly -- if it did work, we're talking magic secret sauce.

I wonder if Phil would sell an electronics harness?

Maybe... I kinda doubt it (if he knew of the buyer's sinister plans). But I happen to have a '95 Factor and a good Jazz... Now I'm wonderin'... I surely wouldn't try it myself, but Rocket Music is just up the street, and they have a great repairman...

My bassist in our prog band Territorial Chant owned these 3 X Factors at one time, he is down to just the black one now, the '93 red burst fretless was mine before the lines where added to it! I traded him for a cassette 8 track rack recorder, BIG mistake!!!!:crying:

Alright! Fedex just delivered my new-to-me Kubicki, a 92 Post-fender in red. It rocks! It came with some funky strings but later this weekend I'll have the same strings on both and compare them side by side.

I guess I am a collector now ? :)

Ugh... I am having some problems with the new one... Not sure what is going on with the stacked bass/treble knob, because neither has any effect at all. Actually the lower one seems to produce a slight boost in the 40hz range but that's it. The active setting w/ boost is deep and bassy (not in a good way) compared to my FCS one.

I swapped out the batteries (toshibas that said 'best before jan 2008') but that didn't seem to do anything....

Anyone have any suggestions?

Yikes... Man, that doesn't sound good at all... I guess you've probably scoped out the control cav for loose/popped connections, huh? it's hard to do on these because there's a lot going on in there, but it sure sounds like your treble pot is disconnected entirely somehow.

You know, dude, it's just not worth the migraine: Tell you what — send it to me. I'll cover shipping. Start looking for something else and put this poor, mistreated bass out of your mind. I assure you, I'll dispose of it properly...

factorplayer, any update on your problems with your ex-factor? And will you be parting with your blue kubicki to recoup after purchasing that quilted top ex-factor?;)

Well I'm still not sure if it's in my head or not... I took it to the local bass shop and we tested it out, it seems to be working to some degree, just nowhere near as pronounced as on my blue FCS with the 9-volt. I talked to Phil and he indicated that this is the case to some degree, but honestly I don't think we were communicating very well (though he was super nice and helpful) - he did mention though that I could get the 9-volt system swapped into this bass if I wanted and that I "wouldn't be the first to have done it". I thought that was interesting.

And yes I am excited about the maple quilt top which will be the next addition. But it was unplanned for and having just bought this one immediately prior I had to scrape a bit. Good thing I'm doing this kind of stuff while I'm single, couldn't see explaining that to a wife :) So I will probably sell this red one as soon I'm satisfied that it's working ok. Love to have 3 but that does seem somewhat excessive. Maybe if it was a fretless

The blue one I'm very happy with and has served me well many years - it is a keeper.

Whups...My bad... Scrreeeeeech! I thought that ebay post said 18v when I first read it... Thought it was a Pre-Fender... My mistake. Dang, I was SURE the post said 18v... Was it changed?

Regardless of the 9V or 18V preamp, take into account that it is not an Ex Factor (32" scale plus extension to 36" for the E string) but a regular Factor bass (34" scale, no E string extension). That little gadget is what raises its price so much, so I think it's a fair price, assuming the bass is in great condition.

Ooooh, no no no, young padawan learner... You must very MUCH regard that 9v/18v issue! That is THE determining 'factor' (sorry, couldn't help it) in qualifying this as a 'real' Kubicki or a Fender Kubicki! That one single descriptor defines this bass' value! Do a quick search on FCS vs real Kubicki basses...

Lots of Kubicki owners would MUCH rather own a 34" scale Factor from the real Kubicki shop than a 32" scale + drop D lever Fender Kubicki Ex Factor...

All told, I still think you're asking a VERY reasonable price. When I thought this was an 18v Kubi, I thought you were asking far LESS than it was worth!

I'm not disregarding it. I know the differences between the Fender and non-Fender Kubicki basses. My point is that anyway, the fact of not being an Ex Factor (not having the extension for the E string) is also a factor to consider when pricing one of these basses. In that order of ideas, I don't think the seller "doesn't know what he has got".

The sarcasm runs deep in this one :smug: ;)

That is actually pretty rare to see one without the extension. Why wouldn't you pop for the ex option if you're spending $1000+ 1988 dollars?

Yeah, $1100 is about right. he would have gotten it too if he had started at .99 w/ no reserve. I predict a re list at $1000 BIN.

Hey all, I am VERY interested in acquiring a Factor. I was reading the posts backwards so I haven't got all the facts yet. But, I want to make sure I'm not possibly bidding against one of you for this:

A little rich for my blood right now but, I'm dreaming.

I would like any/all information on where to find a Kubicki.

Here is another one but, I can't read it.

I remember a bass player in a band I was in around 90'. Boy did we make fun of the silly looking bass. But, thinking back, it did sound excellent. And, I'm sure he got the chicks because of it.
