Last year I exchanged some e-mail messages with Mr. Kubicki since I asked him for a quote on a brand-new Ex Factor. He told me that he was backordered and even told me that he was going to put my request on his priority list without asking for an advance payment. This year, I've sent him two e-mail messages asking for an update and he hasn't replied back. :atoz:

You'd be better off phoning him, he has always answered whenever I've called during the day. I think he is a bit e mail challenged. Once you are on his radar things happen quickly.

My beloved Ex-Factor, on long-term loan to a buddy. I can't remember exactly but its a 93', non-Fender. Think I'll be rocking this onstage soon!

I'd describe it as undescribable. Simply the clearest, most musical-sounding bass ever built. Extremely focused in the low mids; deep but not boomy lows, throaty high-mids and biting highs. Not what you'd call a 'round' tone that many players love - the notes don't 'blossom' - but it slices through a mix like a hot razor.

That's just ONE of the Kubi's voices: There are MANY tones in the incredible preamp.

Go to VailJohnson.com. He posts a number of excellent samples,

How would you guys describe the sound of an Ex-Factor ? Does it get deep lows ? Seems like they are very versatile sound wise. Anyone have a soundclip of just the bass ?
I'm really gassing for one but they to sell for so much on fleabay.

Just to let all you guys know, there is a red, pre fender (I think) Ex Factor at the Davenport, IA Music Go Round. You can look it up at Musicgoround.com

I am in no way associated with the store. Just a heads up.

Edit: heres the link [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

The store says that it's a pre-Fender deal, but SN is 1462 and it was made on June '89. The last SN for a pre-Fender Kubicki was #1286, from February '89.

I'd hate to think I just got lucky. I hope all is well in Factorland. From what I could tell it's just Phil and an assistant, and his wife.
Davide, when I sent him my bass and your neck for fitting he talked me into doing the whole refurbish treatment to the bridge/tuners, etc. saying," You know, I won't be around forever". I said yes. It made me think though.
