Hey guys.............

The bad news are.........
Factor prices will start now at $4,200 to $4,400 depending on the top.
cheers,
Charles

Whoa, I'm glad I ordered mine when I did. At the time mine listed at $3200. By the time he had it finished (about 21 months later), he had upped the price to nearly $4000, but he sold it to me at the original price that I ordered. $3200 was a huge stretch for me at the time, but $4000+ would be impossible and I would never have any but a used one from eBay. I don't often have good timing, but I got it this time! By the way, before his price increase, he had the same price for over 5 years, so an increase was overdue.

Count me in for wanting a Kub member number. I've got 4 of them, the earliest being #66 (I'm always looking for earlier numbered basses).

Its not a surprise prices are going up. At least Phil is still building them and services the older ones, plus he's a great guy to talk to!

Hey, Fellers

I just got my new Kubi and I'm lovin' it. But I noticed a little issue when I plugged in: The output of my koob is pretty low? Is this typical of Kubickis? Could it be that the batteries are in need of changing? Weak batteries would explain a volume drop in active mode, but the passive modes are equally weak. Is there an internal volume pot that might be turned down? I know about the mid frequency pot, but is there a master?

Nope. Batteries were fine. Something in there is killing the volume of every setting. The output is steady - not crackly or intermittent - so it's not a short. I can't find a loose or missing connection, either.

Oh, no... Did I get a lemon? I can't afford to send this to Phil for a refurb. I sold off everything to buy this. Sure I could get a refund, but I waited and waited for a Kubicki! I can't bear to let it go back!

It's not a "lemon" but something is wrong for sure. It did not leave my house that way. You should clearly be able to hear the gain between active and passive modes.

Of course you can send it back -no problem.

Let me know.

No way! It's mine, Greg! Mine mine mine! I love it already! You'll never see this bass again!:p (Unless you wanna come to Virginia to visit it)

No, it's gotta be a simple problem in there somewhere... I just have to find it. It couldn't be working basically fine, just too quietly, if there were a serious problem. If I can't run the problem down, maybe the guys up the street at Rocket Music can...

There is no passive tone control, just the pre sets. The passive output IS going to be a bit weak, but the active settings should frighten neighbors. Big difference in volume should be expected.

The manual says that the bass control is a passive tone... Oh, wait a minute... That's the manual for the FCS Kubi! This is a REAL Kubi. So Phil didn't use that trick? Cool, one mystery solved.

There is only a small volume change from active to passive... Big EQ change, but not a lot of volume change. Maybe I got bad batteries... It's happened before...

Back to 7/11!

Everything's fine! Here's what I learned about Kubicki basses today:

They love FRESH batteries.
Even batteries that zap your tongue aren't necessarily fresh enough.

They love EXPENSIVE batteries.
Nothing less than twin Duracells or Energizers work. And definitely NOT 7/11 brand (yes, 7/11 has a battery brand)

Even the PASSIVE modes are affected by fresh batteries.
I don't know why, but it's true.

It's very easy to lose the little screws that hold the control cavity cover.
Less easy to find them.

And one more thing. Kubickis are the shizzle. I love this bass!
