In that case, you may need to get some custom length strings made. I have some 40" and 42" winding length Black Nylon Tapewounds that I had made for some customers. If demand is there I can do a 39 / 40" winding White or White Copper tape.
Just ordered a set from Justin athttp://BassStringsOnline.Com to try on my new Ibanez Artcore AGB205 that came in today. I have been using Roto and D'A's on my Mikro and Starcaster re-issue.
MT, I look forward to your review. I have the 4-string version of that bass and just put black nylons on it, after initially ordering coppers. Different, need to spend some time with these. Been using Roto 66's on my other bass and whatever stock strings on this Ibanez. I'm used to more mids with the Rotos. These black nylons do bring a fundamental clear tone, they are smooth, and as an observation I thought the .115 set would be a little thicker in terms of feel. His is the direction I was going in in terms of trying something new...
On the LaBella black tapewound XL is works for my 36" (just makes it)

Even D'Addario needs a person running each machine and to setup for each string size etc...
La Bella does not keep items in stock. They are still a small family run company. They make such a wide variety of items that they simply can not stock it all, and to keep product fresh and consistent they do not keep items on the shelf. There are a lot of bass sets that literally I am the only one to order, or one or two other shops. Even a standard 45-105 Round Wound set is ordered and has a significant lead time for dealers. Thats just how they are.
The strings are on, but still need to make a few adjustments to intonation as they settle in. The feel is as good or better than the Roto's or D'A's tapewound, and the sound is a nice and warm one on the Ibanez AGB205. To me much better than the stock D'A's. No loss of sustain, still plenty of highs...but such rich warm lows, with plenty of bottom.
Are these actually a copper color string or are they more of a gold or brass color? Also, do they sound brighter or darker than the La Bella black tapewounds?
The thing I'm curious about is the output level. I noticed a significant loss from regular stainless to the black/clear

Len13 the set I got was 760C-B, .060 .070. .094 .115 .135. GBassNorth the color to my old eyes appears to be copper, especially since my bass has gold hardware. I can't compare them to the La Bella blacks, Jason or someone else maybe able to answer that, but they give me a warm but bit brighter sound than the Roto 88's on my Mikro...but that could be the basses themselves. JoshAckerly the difference in output from the stock D'A's was minimal, not as much as the Roto 88's on the Mikro, but again..different basses.

I mean, in terms of how the string vibrates etc. I wouldn't have guessed that copper would have really outstanding potential for a string, but some strings that worked well on my upright were copper wound over a synthetic core, so what do I know.
A string needs a certain mass/weight per inch for a given gauge to oscillate at pitch over a pre-determined speaking length at tension.
Any weight (usually metal because of weight/density) will work and copper is flexible, doesn't fatigue or corrode (tarnishes/oxidizes tho) fast. However, it's not magnetic, but used with magnetic under-windings, or as a plating over steel, nickel, cobalt, etc., works with magnetic pickups.
Uprights w/o magnetic pickups don't require steel, nickel, cobalt, etc. in their composition, so they just need the weight/mass/density per inch.
I'm sure someone can explain that a bit better, tho.

I got so excited by the new mystery flats from BSO, so sorry to interupt this thread

I ended up canceling all my plans for last night as I could not wait to put these on!
So flexible and easy to play for these old hands( tendon issues)!
Nice and woody sounding that will only improve with time. Highs, LOWS, mids its all there!
Pleasantly pliable, effortless playability and well balanced to boot!
I wish I had these when I first switched from rounds, it would have saved my tons of $$$! But then I may have never tried tapewounds,
my dark lovelies.
But these flats have found a permanent home on SR500PB!

The above is irrelevant to this thread and only creates confusion for those who think they are reading about the Copper White Tapewounds.
I too am waiting to hear some real time feedback hopefully comparing these Copper whites to the La Bella black nylon set.I've been pretty devoted to the black tapes on my Rob Allen fretless but I am very open to experiment with the Coppers if they seem to offer some favorably new sonic possibilities.Please chime in,thanks.
The gauges are pretty heavy. Is that because they don't have as much tension? Does the nut have to be adjusted to fit the heavier gauge? And will they fit in a string through bridge?
I own 2 medium scale 5 string basses and 1 short scale. Which gauge would best suit - light or regular (heavy)?
