Lakland or Ibanez?

That's an -01 model, not an -02. Pretty different pre and pickups.

I've never had a problem with the necks on my Skyline fours moving. But the Skyline fives also have graphite rods.

I was wondering which bass would be better? The Lakland Skyline Deluxe 55-02 or the Ibanez SR1805E Premium? Both cost around the same price. I have played Ibanez basses before, but only the lower level SRs. The SRs play very nice with low action. I have never played a Lakland before, but heard that they are great basses. If you were choosing between these two basses which one would you pick?

Ibanez makes some fanned fret models of the sr that are cheaper than the 1805. I haven't tried one yet but I bet it's pure magic

With the changes in the Ibanez lines in the last few years including, KTS titanium stiffening rods in the Premium and Prestige lines, Nordstrand pickups, better woods, including ash, wenge, jatoba, bubinga, purpleheart and burl woods, technical innovations including fanned frets and singlecut designs, Ibanez has definitely stepped up their game.

I haven't' seen innovative changes like that at Lakland in quite a while. Ibanez is making a lot of basses in Indonesia, like the Lakland Skylines and I"m seeing excellent QC from that plant.

I've bought an SRFF805, an SR1400, and an SR650 in the last two years and I'm very happy with each of them.

So, when looking at the higher end of the SR family, Premium, and Bass Workshop products, I think they are competitive (but different) to the Lakland Skylines. I like both brands!

You're mistaken, the bass in your picture is a 44-01...a 44-02 would have a J neck pickup and a MM bridge pickup just like this 55-02:

Apparently you do not, the difference between the two models is quite easy to distinguish. The bass in the pic is definitely a 44-01. Sorry.

I will say this I traded a Ibanez 1605 pictured above for Lakland 55-01 that was modded with about 500 extras. Had Nordstrand Dual Coil pickups and the best Nordstrand 3 band prreamp. Beautiful bass but it wasn't close to my worst Premium Ibanez I've bought. Sold it within a day after receiving it.

Hi Mark,

In a word, "Nice". Tight and has a good solid tone all the way up and down the neck. The B is 35.5" but the fanning helps with reach. Some folks don't care for the soapbar tone, but with the preamp bypass, and the 3 crossover points on the preamp, I think it's pretty flexible. It's a little darker in tone, but it's easy enough to roll back toward the bridge pickup if needed.

Very well thought out and designed instrument.

Lakland Skyline 44-01 - Invalid Link Removed Notice both the bridge and neck pickups are humbuckers and both are the same size.

Lakland Skyline 44-02 - Invalid Link Removed On this bass, the neck pickup is a Jazz and the bridge pickup is a MM-style and larger. Also, the 44-02 has a 3-position coil-tap switch on the body between the volume and blend pots.

Yup, I have the srff805 and it sounds and plays amazingly well. I am also pleased that it has a full size neck, not one of those rediculously thin ibby pencil necks.

Believe it or not, the SRFF805 and SRFF806 string spacing is 16.5mm! But it actually feels quite a bit wider.

I agree with the "toy" bass statement, yeah i'm just going to have to do some thinking about it and see. My heart says "go with the ibby", but the Lakland just looks like a more solid bass.

go with the ibby if you like it. it's a very solid bass - if treated well, pretty much any bass will outlive any of us.

Man that 1805 looks so beautiful! How versatile do you think this bass can be? I play cajun/zydeco/country with some classic rock and hard rock. I like the 1805, but I would love to also see how the new 1905 sounds. It should sound the same.

As you can see I've owned all those and several other 1500-2200 basses. My 1805 was by far the best and was my main bass when I was giging 15-17 times per month. It is very versatile and woud sit perfect in the mix. I have a recording using my Premium Ibanez if you want me to send it. We played Christian Gospel. I'm not the best but atleast you can see how the bass sounds in a live setting.
