Lakland or Ibanez?

I'm thinking about buying a btb1605. I've owned five lakands and were all nice instruments. I think Ibanez is doing a better job with the new line comparable to the skyline lakands. I played on an 1805 and was very impressed with the quality and sound. Personally the btb work better with the wider string spacing. I would recommend the Ibanez.

The 1805 looks nice. I've owned a BTB675 and really wasn't impressed with it. It was heavy and I did not like the sound that the 675 produced. However, I bet the 1605 will be better since its a premium ibby. It's a beautiful bass.

The pickups are dead quiet in all the Ibanez Premium basses I owned. I recorded with them and I wouldn't have been able to if they would have had any feedback at all. The sound your hearing in that recording is the straight bass without any effects or amp. Used just a little compression but that was it. Tone was the bare Ibanez Premium bass. It had a very thick and smooth tone.

One more vote for Lakie, but for a choice like this I'd definitely go based on preferred ergonomics rather than our preferences.

If you want a somewhat heavier bass with wider nut and string spacing and a classic look, I'd go with the 55-02

If you want a lighter bass with a skinny nut and spacing and a more modern look, then Ibanez is the way to go. IIRC even the wider-than-Soundgears BTB is thinner than the Lakland.

As much as I love Lakland, I think that someone who has grown to prefer ergonomics that more reflect Ibanez than Fender might not be happy with the 55-02. The reverse is true for those who prefer Fender, MM or G&L style basses.

Close maybe, but probably not. IMHO, nothing sounds like a P without a mid position P-style pickup. If its' a 5 string P you want, Lakland makes one of those too.

The Carvin PB5 is an excellent idea as well. If a wait is all that's holding you back, it may be time to take a breather and consider the benefit of patience. A month or so wait is nothing if it's going to give you exactly what you want.

I have a ATK805 Premium bass that I would give a slight nod to in fit and finish. However at $500 for the 675 from a seller here on TB, I would be crazy to pass it up. I've got a Japanese BTB 905 coming in that cost as much as the premium models of that day went for. Before they were using Bart's across the product line. I will have another prestige or premium bass soon...

Yeah $500 is a great price for that bass. I just did not like how "bulky" it felt. It just felt big to me.

Yeah your right, but I really don't want a bulky 5 string bass. The SBMM Ray35 that I had felt bulky to me and felt weird to get around. I just don't want to get the Carvin and be disappointed, plus I really like the feel of the Ibanez SR basses. I've never played a premium SR, but I bet it is going to feel great. The Ibanez SR405 is the bass that I always regretted selling, because the neck felt great.

If a Ray feels bulky to you, then the Lakie probably will too. I'd go with the SR.

My vote is for Ibanez but probably not the SR1805e but the SRSC805.
I do own a SR1200-VNF, it has these Big Single coil Nordstrand pickups which punch through anything when playing fingerstyle, slap n pop though is not their strength.
That said, I'm going to sell the SR1200-VNF and want to buy this one

Well I am not a slap and pop player. I play fingerstyle 100% of the time.
