Glad you're diggin' it! Strange that the setup was bad...was it used?

The first thing I noticed was the bass was not really playable. The action was UNGODLY high. I took some time and ran her through a quick set up..lowered the action, took some relief out of the neck, set the intonation....and BAM, played like a dream and was ready to go. First thing I noticed was the neck...great feel, but wow, did it feel HUGE. I have been playing 6's mostly the last few years till I unloaded all of my others and grabbed my first lakland. It was a JO5 and the neck felt like a twig compared to my 6's. Then I got my Glaub and couldn't put it down, so it has been all I have been playing lately. I forgot how different it was going from a 4 to a 5. Anyway...back to the bass....I set everything flat and it had a killer, even tone. Then I started messing with the EQ. There is a lot of flexibility in the EQ, a little turn goes a long way, and all of them are very useable, even in extreme settings. It does have a great musicman tone with the bridge soloed. It can cover a J or a P as well....although I have a Glaub and JO to handle those...lol. The B is thunderous as well. Best B in the biz. I will fire it up through my Navigator/WT1000 212xlt on Sunday and the same head with my 610xlt on Tuesday at band practice so I will have some more reports then, but for tonight, I am more than pleased with the new voice this adds to the JO5 and Glaub.

the point is, i'm from europe (austria)...so i won't ship my bass to chicago to get it fixed there...that is just to complex, costly and time-consuming.

i hope it is easy to fix, so a local tech can do it

I think the volume pot will be an easy task. Likely, spreading graphite on the contact pad will be enough, the only trick is that it is stacked. The easiest way would actually be changing one at the expense of the dealer, but finding the right stack pot could sometimes be a problem. I once ordered one from Kirk at Lakland. Got it at no problemo.
What was weird, the "old" and the "new" pots had different resistance and different parts attached.
As to the volume difference, the Bartolini 918-L has a trim pot that looks like a plastic screw inside the preamp cavity. You can adjust the passive/active volume ratio with it. IIRC, the LH-3 doesn't, and the volume difference was increased on the players' request. But if it does, it will be as simple as turning a screw.

If you happen to have further problems, there's a lh-3 pre from a 55-02 on sale here in Russia. The guy's asking 4500 roubles, that is roughly 100 euros.

What part of Austria are you in? My wife and mother-in-law go on business trips to Salzburg, Linz etc. Their firm is a part of First Alpina (or whatever :smug:)

Carl set up Sexual C. for me, but she was buzzing so bad when she arrived... I think it took a week, and at least 5 truss tweaks to get her aclimated to TN temps and humidity

That is what I am thinking....just need to spend some time and gradually tweaking. It's not that bad though, as I woudl need to tweak it with new strings anyway. I will be putting DR Nickel Low Riders on it....now do I go for a hollowbody of 44-01 fretless next?
