Hmm, just played it some more and tried all the mid-switch settings. I DID hear the grind more than I did at band prac yesterday, and it definitely has nice bottom. Need to A/B it against my CHI-buckered Sexual Chocolate to see which one is growlier. Either way, I love it! I've named it Kobol, after the star nearest to God's throne... a fitting name I thinkI don't know, I suck at descriptions, but the first thing that comes to mind is...... grindy with bottom. IDK.
I agree with Randy's quick description. I can definitely hear the difference between yours and my DS'd Glaub (I A/B'd them at Lakland)--not only is your pickup a little closer to the bridge, but the pole pieces are at the rear (mine are towards the front). When I dug in on yours near the bridge, I got some good grind out of it. I'm sure EQ'ing would get even more. Also, I don't know if you ever play with a pick, but Dark Stars like them a lot!
Just started using a pick recently, and tried it at prac yesterday. Didn't get the sound I was after YET, but I'm sure I will. I've been playing a jazz in series mode to get the pick sound I like, so that may be asking a lot from a single DS in MM pup location, we'll see. Check out Shinedown's "Save Me", that's the tone I like when I'm picking. But, now that I'm thinking about it, their bassist played a MM SR when I saw 'em live last time. Course some other guy/studio pro recorded the bass for the CD, wonder what he used??
Gawd!!!!
those are terrible photos!
Killer bass though!!!
not everybody has a tripod ('cept when I take pics while naked HARHARHAR)You're more than welcome to come to my place and take some pics, fully clothed of course, and of my basses ONLY.... I'll even buy you dinner.
How's about tomorrow??
Well guys, Ive taken the plunge!
Just ordered a new Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn 5, in 3 Tone Sunburst with a rosewood board. It comes with the Aged White plate, and Ive also ordered a spare Tort plate to make the rosewood look even nicer.
After many emails, and some excellent customer service, Dan @ Lakland has reserved me their lowest weight JO5 in that spec.
Awesome news, congrats!
I've got 2 Shuttle 6.0s for gigs w/ upgraded tubes, but I still prefer the Carvin B series amps over everything I've used, just too HEAVY

everybody is getting new Lakies and i had to sell my last aquisition. the B/M JO5 i got new from leo a couple months ago. due to a fire at my barbershop i had to close a couple days and i need the money i would have made.
