LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #26

I don't know, I suck at descriptions, but the first thing that comes to mind is...... grindy with bottom. IDK.
Hmm, just played it some more and tried all the mid-switch settings. I DID hear the grind more than I did at band prac yesterday, and it definitely has nice bottom. Need to A/B it against my CHI-buckered Sexual Chocolate to see which one is growlier. Either way, I love it! I've named it Kobol, after the star nearest to God's throne... a fitting name I think :D.

I agree with Randy's quick description. I can definitely hear the difference between yours and my DS'd Glaub (I A/B'd them at Lakland)--not only is your pickup a little closer to the bridge, but the pole pieces are at the rear (mine are towards the front). When I dug in on yours near the bridge, I got some good grind out of it. I'm sure EQ'ing would get even more. Also, I don't know if you ever play with a pick, but Dark Stars like them a lot!

Just started using a pick recently, and tried it at prac yesterday. Didn't get the sound I was after YET, but I'm sure I will. I've been playing a jazz in series mode to get the pick sound I like, so that may be asking a lot from a single DS in MM pup location, we'll see. Check out Shinedown's "Save Me", that's the tone I like when I'm picking. But, now that I'm thinking about it, their bassist played a MM SR when I saw 'em live last time. Course some other guy/studio pro recorded the bass for the CD, wonder what he used??

Gawd!!!!

those are terrible photos!

Killer bass though!!!

:eyebrow: not everybody has a tripod ('cept when I take pics while naked HARHARHAR)

You're more than welcome to come to my place and take some pics, fully clothed of course, and of my basses ONLY.... I'll even buy you dinner.

How's about tomorrow??

Well guys, I’ve taken the plunge!

Just ordered a new Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn 5, in 3 Tone Sunburst with a rosewood board. It comes with the Aged White plate, and I’ve also ordered a spare Tort plate to make the rosewood look even nicer.

After many emails, and some excellent customer service, Dan @ Lakland has reserved me their lowest weight JO5 in that spec.

Awesome news, congrats!

I've got 2 Shuttle 6.0s for gigs w/ upgraded tubes, but I still prefer the Carvin B series amps over everything I've used, just too HEAVY . Still got my B800 that I use for a fusion trio that doesn't gig. Although, I must say that a friend has a vintage $200 tube in his Shuttle 6 and that thing is PHENOMENAL sounding, the best I've heard!

:bawl: everybody is getting new Lakies and i had to sell my last aquisition. the B/M JO5 i got new from leo a couple months ago. due to a fire at my barbershop i had to close a couple days and i need the money i would have made.

oh well, i wasnt playing it much anyways since its a fiver. i was planning on selling it to buy a US Glaub , but thats out FOR NOW.

i would have been really bummed if i had to sell one of my U.S. laklands.

that shinedown bass tone is definately the signature stingray with a pick tone,i know it well, before being a Lakland fanatic, i used stingrays pretty much exclusively.

Not much of a story here. I brought home a 55-02 and a DJ5 a year ago, and just thought that the 55-02 was "close enough" to a jazz not justify keeping both, so I took the DJ5 back and bought a 44-02. Over the last year, I've hardly used anything but the "jazz" setting on either bass. It is a close sound, but it just isn't the same as a real pair of passive single coils. Plus the DJ is just so darn sexy.

So I called up Bass Central and ordered a DJ and a DJ5. Only have the DJ so far, and I've decided to sell my 44 and 55-02's in the process. I don't need that many basses. I'm just a jazz bass kinda guy, and the DJ is hard to beat.

so you'll have a DJ4 and a DJ5?? cool!!! same color?

Also, to top it off, I have a new Aguilar Tone Hammer coming through the post. The pre-amp, brilliant dirt and fantastic DI will give me everything I need, and will add that little ‘ummmph’ to my passive basses if they need it.

GAS for basses? Not anymore, apart from possibly selling my MIJ P Bass and getting another USA P 08/09 in Olympic white/tort guard/rosewood board.

I am still after the Shuttle 9.0…definitely. Then Im done!

congrats!!!!! nice going! when do you get it?

as for GAS....jsut wait.....it has a tendency to return FAST! especially after playing a new Lakie...new basses are supposed to cure GAS, but NOT Lakies.....they cause more....must be somthin' they put in the finish ...some sorta drug.....

OK - I just went overboard...sorry!

Matty - sorry man!

I saw it was for sale but thought it was raising coin for the US Glaub....
