LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #26

maybe this will make me sound really cheap, but IO would rather wait and get one used...lol...or maybe find a B-Stock from Leo is one ever pops up. A hollowbody would not get the majority of play time so I woudl like to find a deal on one. I can be patient (I think)

Yeah...I hear ya...it is pretty cheap for a new hollowbody though!

FINALLY, got the deal done on my first Scheff... in LPB - of course!!

Congrats man

Well, I posted here for advice a few weeks back and I read a bunch of other posts in the 5501 mod thread etc...

My goal was to get my first 5 String. Funds being limited and wanting a quality bass. I was look at either a MIM Fender Jazz 5 String or the Lakland 5501. I had played a friend's Lakland some time ago and was impressed with it.

So this morning - I popped in to see what was in the Classifieds and there was a 5501 with a case for really good price. So after some discussion with the owner - I decided this was going to be my intro to both the World of 5 Strings and Lakland. I am looking at adding the Nordy's to this - but only if I can't live with it stock.

Here's pic from the For Sale thread. Thanks to Terry (Buffordbass). I will naturally report back after we get acquainted.

Don't underestimate the Hollow Body and it's versatility...having owned one I was really surprised at the range..

Thanks Matty - maybe this is the start of a long relationship. Always been a Fender guy till I tried Spectors - now I play my Spector 6 and 4 String more than anything - the P-Bass with Flats gets some love too.

Never owned a 5 and when I play the 4 String - I miss the B String more than the C - so I think a 5 String is going to get lots of use. From my research - hard to find a better 5 String for the money - and given the Mod Factor - I can change it up if I don't like the Stock Barts.

PUPS are pretty personal and subjective thing and I can usually dial in a good sound on anything - so not so worried about wanting to make changes right away - but the versatility from adding the Nordy PUPs and an upgraded pre is enticing. All in good time. This is an early B-Day present - or at least that is my story and I sticking to it.

regardless of what you choose to do about the pickups, you wont find a better playing or more comfortable 5 string bass for the money.
