What's up with the MTD's? Are they changing?
Yeah, different manufacturer. Still waiting to hear what minor details will be different. MT will make sure that they're as good as the previous ones.

Oddly, I have EB slinky's on most of my guitars, but think I actually liked them the least out of all that I tried on my basses.

I didn't like them for a while, but since they're kind of cheap I decided to try them again. They're OK, not great. I change strings as often as I can, anyway. I like 'em bright.
The change MAY only affect the stainless strings, I'll find out. But, I just got an email, w/ some info... sounds like the new ones will be EVEN better tonally and feel-wise.

So, us 5 string players HAVE to get the ECB81-5SL SUPERLONG sets which MOST stores don't carry. They run about $45 a set on ebay and $49+ in most stores. The LONGS don't work cause they have a B that is about 1/4 inch too short (twine starts before the nut). I just nabbed a set for $39.99 + $1.75 shipping on the 'bay, but that's kinda rare.
Anyways, I'm a member of the bass string club at Bass Central, and even they can't beat the 'bay prices. BUT, if anybody wants to place a BIG order for the SLs, we could get a discounted price.
So, does anybody wanna get together and commit to buying say 3 or more sets each? Maybe we could get 20+ sets ordered and get a bargain price? PM me and we'll see what happens.

Right now, I've got DR SS Lo-Riders that I won from the LOG (thank you very much). They are fantastic.
My other JO has Sadowsky flats, which are wonderful. I'm surprised Sadowsky strings aren't more popular around here. I love Lakland basses, but their flats don't measure up to the LaBella/Sadowsky.

I've had minimal experience w/ Lakland SS strings, 2 sets, and didn't prefer them over DRs or MTDs.
If I could get some Sadowskys cheaply, I'd try 'em out.

I'd love to try out some Sadowsky strings as well. Too bad that's not going to happen anytime soon as long as I have to pay $33 for a set plus $8 shipping. I mean, that's kooky talk.
The only thing kooky was how much I spent on the bass itself. But hey, it's nice. Spending a few extra bucks on superior strings that last forever seems okay to me. Plus, I buy them locally at Bass Emporium. Their prices are good.
I didn't know how lucky I was with string availability.
I didn't realize those guys carried them. Free shipping on $100+ orders too. I'll have to put together a little string shootout order with them.
Lakland strings are great, but here's the catch - The longer you play them the better they sound (IMO).
I don't like them so much at first, but after about a month they really sound good and play like butter.
After a year, they're pure joy.
I have Sadowsky Blue Steels on another bass, I really, really like them. Lower tension and smoother feel than the Laklands.
I also use MTD's steels. I like the tone better than Laklands but they're rough to the touch.
I recently tried Dunlop's SS. Kept them on until I couldn't stand it anymore. Crazy amount of midrange and the highest tension strings I've ever used.
Fortunately I keep strings on at least a year before I change them so cost generally is not an issue since I'm gonna get 12 months out of 'em.
I've actually had strings start to rust on the bass....
But did I mention that I represent the son of the former deposed prime minister of Nigeria?
