I've never played or really heard a CS bass (save for the samples on the Lakland site). So today I listened to the samples again, particularly to the JOCS and JO, flats and rounds.
To say the truth, as heard online, I think I like the "regular" singles more than the CS:hiding: It may be the computer speakers or something... To me, the CS samples sound more "shallow" and "flat", maybe "neat" whereas the singles have those accented jazzy "bumps"...

Please tell me if I'm wrong.

The Chi's seem to have more PUNCH, and a boom frequency that reaches lower to awesome sub-sonic depths, but the regular Single-coils retain more overall warmth and aggressive high-end, it seems.
This was the main reason I decided against Chi'ing up my DJ.

I wish you could too! Chis are all around fuller...I think standard singles are a more harsh...not more aggressive to me.

Hmmm :hmm:, and the bid on the damaged Decade on the 'bay has went up above what I'd wanna spend on it too. So, we won't be swapping necks, sorry.

Why didn't you just put a P pup in your JO5?

The more I look at Doude's PJed 5er, the more I think that "aesthetically" the pups look crowded (reminiscent of the old Stu Hamm Urge bass, remember that one??). I like the look of the JO/DJ bodies w/ PJ configs much better.

Don't get me wrong Doude's BG5 is awesome. I'd just prefer it w/ just the P pup, looks-wise. But ironically, history tells me that I just don't dig straight up P basses :hmm:. I needs me a J or preferably a MM pup near the bridge :hyper:.

I would still buy ANY BG5 if I had the funds though and one was available. Curiosity is a killer!!

No the BG5 is a killer! LOL. Honestly, I hardly even use the bridge pickup on my JO5 anymore (which is why I'm considering switching to a P/J), so I'm pretty glad I just went straight P on mine....

Guys i need some advice.
First off i have emailed Lakland and bestbass gear about this but thought i would ask here a si might get a quicker answer.
As you know my DJ5 is now in need of a hum cancelling bridge pup.
Im pretty set on getting a Nordy NJ5FS (and kirk has recommended this) but what size do i go for?
I measured the lakland pup i have and it looks like its 4". The two sizes the NJ5FS comes in are 4.1" and 3.97" (i think, its just under 4").
On the Nordy site it says the NJ5FS set will also fit the JO5 so i assume its fine for the DJ5 as well but if the bridge pup is 4.1" either im measuring mine wrong or it just wont fit.
Its probably me but i would have said the neck pup was closer to the right size.

Any comments etc?

if it fits the JO it will absolutely fit the dj5,

best of luck, thats gonna be one KILLER PJDJ5

I recently got 5502D on a trade. It looks great and I do love the neck but I am not really digging the tone. It has LH3, not Bart electronics (not that I have tried Bart elcetronics). I am looking to trade with Bart electronics and have my ad on classified. My question is then this: Do you guys prefer LH3 over Bart? Why?

Every time I go to the Lakland site (or other sites with .mp3 links), I click the link to listen to the sound sample, my Media Player window opens and the progress bar moves but I get no sound.

Everything else with my laptop works fine regarding sound, it's just when I try to listen to linked sound clips.

Anyone ever have this issue?

I personally prefer the LH3. I've heard that the EARLY Barts are nicer, but all the ones I've heard from the past five or six years just sound dark and lifeless to me.

out of curiosity, pop the back on the controls, on the circuit board it will have a sticker, it will say either rev.c or rev.d

the rev.c was an early design and not as flexible. not much bass boost either.

the rev.d is a great preamp though!!

that being said,i actually prefer the barts in my 4-94, but i have a rev.c in my other 4-94.

Try playing them with Quicktime. I've found Windows Media player to be pretty finicky to me too.

Phat Daddy I'm serious and not being sarcastic at all. If Lakland actually offered a 6 string version of the 55-94 with 18.5 mm spacing, would you actually buy one?
