Yeah, I usually open up the treble and leave it there as my 'default', that way I have a little more boost if I need it, but can cut it if necessary. I started doing that mainly because my recorded tone was a little too dark for my taste. I usually leave it alone and adjust further on the amp for live gigs, that way the direct tone is consistent for mixdown. But yeah, my only real criticism of the LH-3 is that the treble control could be centered a little higher/hotter so it's a bit brighter when at the center detent. I rarely need any major bass boost, and the mid control is VERY effective as-is. For someone who likes active/on-board preamps, I use very little boost/cut in most cases.

When did they tweak those anyway? I've seen talk of different versions... how would one know which they have? Is there some kind of identification on any of the electronics in the cavity?

I haven't really opened up my recently acquired LH-3 equipped 55-02D. Curious if anyone would know what/where to look for.

Time for the updated family pic: L-R = 2009 Glaub with Lakland pup's, 2007 BG with Fralin's, 2008 JO4 CS, and JO4 #26. One of them is spoken for, but look for another one of them to move out so another Lakland can move in. Such is the nature of transient family life. *sigh* Laklandaholic right here folks! :help:

look on the circuit board of your preamp, there will be a small white sticker saying either rev.c or rev.d just above the screw to adjust the gain.

rev.c is the older version with less bass.
