Are they still making DJ's? I didn't see any on the website.

I am kind of GASing for one I saw recently. Maple with blocks five string Lakland with a black body and white pickguard...a Lakland fiver Geddy Lee!

I want it BAD!

well....not EXACTLY. they can no longer make a "DJ"....I hear there are some "on hold" and not for sale pending some legal discussions....as for the future of a similar model...still VERY much up in the air.

if you see one for sale...nab it!

I must be getting wiser..or dumber, or something. I have found that I am completely content with passive 4 string basses. Now, don't get me wrong...the minute lakland announces a 66-94 or whatever it may be, I will be the first in line to buy one...but my ACDJ and BG4 are totally killing right now. I could use some pragmatic advice from guys who have tried these things. I am thinking about putting a J-Retro in my ACDJ. Now, I knwo I said I liked it passive, but an active EQ would be nice for some of the stuff I do. Do I look at a J-Retro or an Audere? Anyone who has used them would be more than welcome to chime in. I am also considering possibly getting a decade to go with my other two. I can listen to the clips online, but I would like some real world reviews from those who have them. If I got a decade, should I make it active and leave my DJ passive? Hmmmmmmm

sometimes "back to basics" is good....I admit I LOVE the tone out of my passive Bg5PJ, JO5 and JOCS....

that said, i DID like the J-retro in my DJ - alot of variety....based on some posts, Evan MAY be going passive...which means my old/his J-retro may be up for sale (not sure - not sure).....try it you might like it...

Very cool! Can you still order a lakie with darkstars or do you can you just order something with chi's?

well.....you CAN get DS pickups but they are special order....go with the CHIs.....

I'm a huge Audere fan. I have one in my JO5.

I think they sound very much like your passive instrument with everything flat.

I like especially like the Z mode.

Some people complain about the Z switch location, but I've never had a problem with it.

I think it's an excellent addition to a great sounding passive instrument.

I don't know much about the J retro, but I know it's based on Marcus Miller's preamp.

You guys may recall that I was not totally happy with the LH3 system and someone made a comment that Rev D is much better than Rev C board. Well, I was exchanging email back and forth with Kirk @ Lakland, and he mentioned that the difference between the two versions are mainly the better treble control on the Rev D. This morning he emailed back and made an offer to send newer board (Rev D) for free!!! What a customer service!!! All the praises that I've read in the forum regarding Lakland's excellent customer service is for REAL!!!
