I spoke with Dan today and worked out final details for the first of two new Glaubs:

Black body w/ black white black pickguard, maple neck w/ black B&B, Chi-Sonic HB w/ a push/pull switch on the volume pot. Gonna pick it up at the shop during my tour.

The white Glaub will be done in January, but I am working that one in to a video budget. The video MUST HAVE a white Lakland bass ;)

Having said that, it looks like I can take my Sonic Blue BG off the block. I really was torn about selling it anyway.

You're going to be all P bassed up! Nice! Glad you don't have to sell your SB BG. Great color!

You got it man! Yeah...love experimenting with strings! I found my new fav last week and they are going on all my basses except the ones with flats.

So, I called my buddy (a newbie bassist) who's currently saving for his first "real" bass, a Fe*der Squeer vintage vibe 60's style P. He's the guy who bought Markus' Carvin/Peavey rig recently (thanks again Markus). He went with me yesterday to hear what a REAL P bass sounds like ;).

Anyways, I asked him... he said Kobol felt better (he likes the US neck's finish), but the "red bass was punchier".

So, I can't wait to gather more opinions.

Then, I'll switch to Chromes on the Dunn, and put steel rounds on Kobol.... and do it all over again, hehehe.

Her coworker says "Ground!"

I start laughing, and said "WOW, now that's some REAL southern talk!"

Luckily everyone started laughing, she didn't take offense. PHEWW, I apologized anyways in between the laughing :D.

BUT, they didn't say that Kobol wasn't beefy, just not as punchy.

Funny thing is, the Dunn was not as loud as Kobol, I had the amp across the room and was playing seated. So, when I switched to the Dunn, there was a volume drop and I didn't bother getting up to go turn up the amp. I had the tone rolled back to about 20%. Kobol had a slight bass boost and treble cut, mids centered. So, I could have dialed in more punch by probably boosting the mids, correct?? Gotten more growl w/ some treble boost too, right? Novice level questions, but I've never claimed to know much about preamp tweaking :help:.

Yup, I get it. To my ears, all things being equal, the DS is fatter and smoother with more low end. The split-coil P pickup delivers more mids and more grind. Along with Chis, those are my favorite tones.

Personally, I finger position and attack a lot more useful than an EQ. I've tried using the EQ on my amp to change up the sound, but the tone stack must suck balls, so I've had a much better experience altering technique.
