You guys and all your crazy ideas of changing strings, lol. It's so funny, as much as I worry about every other component of my tone, I am SOOOOOO indifferent to strings. Back in the day when I was playing a lot more funk and needed some snap on the top, I was religious about changing strings constantly, but now I probably only change strings three times a year 
....and yes, before I get blasted, I realize strings make a bigger difference in my tone than almost any other item, so I'm not questioning your sanity!

Man...I think strings are way up on the list of priorities for gear.
It's not that I don't like to experiment, I think I've just learned that I like not having "zingy" strings, and I don't really feel comfortable with a set until a couple weeks in, and by then I don't want to pull them off to try something new. I've played nearly everything, DR's, D'addarios, etc., and currently use Laklands (although the only flats I've used came on a Fe##er 64CS Jazz that I had for all of a month). Just one of my (many) oddities.
Isn't that half the point of nitro? So it starts to wear easier

Update guys....found a DJ5 in White w/rosewood (what I wanted colour wise) and its only 9.45 lbs.
The store said they will match the price on the LPB with maple I saw going much cheaper than retail. Plus...throw in a padded bag and new strings.
Its a new bass....store owner says action is AMAZING.
What do ya think? I didnt know whether to test a MM Stingray 5 just in case, but they are £400-£500 more than this bass is, (because Ive got a really low offer pricematch).

All systems go! Sure, I'm biased, but I recognize that the 'Ray is a really fine instrument in its own right. With a price like that, and knowing how fine a bass the DJ is, this is an easy decision IMO.
I love both of those basses. To me it comes down to 'ray vs. jazz. Which do you want? IMO a Jazz bass is the only instrument out there that is truly at home in any musical genre. Actually, it excels in any musical genre. It's hard to really say that about any other instrument, 'ray or Precision included. Gospel, Reggae, rock, metal, funk, jazz, country, you name it. A good sounding jazz bass gets it done in high fasion, and the DJ5 is one amazing jazz bass.
