I know that 1998/99 Lakies (Barts) sound VERY different than the newer Barts I have played...not sure who changed the sound (or IF the change was "meant to happen") but there IS a big difference....

I like the early Barts much better...they sound closer to the LH3 to me...

I've read some places that Lakland changed the way bartolini's sounded after a few years. Curious if that was still in the 90's that they did that switch or later?

am i making sense?!

I love the fralins as well!!!

Falls right to hand, completely natural, and has a perfect amount of extra on the far sides of B and G.

Ugggghhhhhh. The band I'm filling in for next week (the Papa Roach show) tunes down a whole step.... Both Lakies handle it well, but I HATE the feel of it. I don't know how you metal dudes do it, lol. I know it's only a half step lower than what my other three bands do, but I REALLY like the feel of higher tension and less floppiness.

Sorry to hear you had to sell all of your gear!

All Lakie 5 bangers have reinforced necks so you should be good to go.

The electronics are just as stable and as quality as the other Lakie innerds so no worries their either....

Unfortunately last November I had to sell all of my gear and haven't played since then. Yesterday I walked into a music store and played a 55-01 for about a half hour and loved it.... 2 questions?? I have owned several Laklands in the past but all were USA made. How is the stability of the neck on the skyline series? Also how are the Pickups and pre in this bass? I can get it for a great price and would love to start playing again! Thanks

glad your overall initial reactions are good....yeh - US headstocks DO seem to be thicker...

as for "top end" Zing! I CS pickups do seem to roll off a little at the top end but the mids more than make up for the loss... (at least in my opinion!)

I don't think they roll off. They have a larger frequency range that most other pickups. They're just glassier on the top in my opinion.

I picked teal metallic... definitely going with the matching headstock which i think I'll love.

I hear he's a great guy and from the email impressions I've gathered I think this is going to be a great choice going through him. I live only few miles from his shop in Van Nuys and on my Birthday Ill get my bass started!!! sooooooo pumped

Ironically, Markus was trading this bass with Ian the same day I PM'd him (Ian) about a picture of this exact bass....was thinking about refinnishing the JJ this color......still a thought...
