I've strung my Flats and Rounds thru the Body for years...I play Flats 85% of the time and I wouldn't have it any other way~

Depending on the bass and strings being used, I find that string-thru configurations sometimes can add a little bit more girth to the acoustic sound of the instrument, particularly on the open strings. When fretting, I don't know if I feel or hear that much of a difference. My feeling is that the more string that comes in contact with the bridge/body, the better. It theoretically should make the bass sing more. I much prefer thru-body stringing, but accept the fact that I cannot do that with flats, which I use 90% of the time. That said, flatwounds behave differently in my experience in the context of this debate... On the basses I have flats on that are strung through the bridge (as flats must be), I find they have a similar sound/feel acoustically as my roundwound-strung thru-body Laklands. YMMV.
P.S. Dan once said on the LOG site, when I posed the same question to him, that he felt there was no difference in his experience.

? Ask the main guy if they "have" to go that route vocally, and tell 'em what I think? I mean, who am I to walk in and start asking for changes, right? Or just decline the job and sit in my basement w/ my dusty Lakies and work on my classical guitar lessons?
