Again: stunning bit of artisan grade work-totally not my thing.

Which is fine: I got some other great choices that are my thing.

We're lucky bassists anymore.
Coming up, back in the day, choices were "J or P"

Good morning fellow Laklanders! Anyone else catch our buddy Branden last night on The (dreaded) Tonight Show? He was rocking the Sonic Blue Glaub and a hot looking white Aguilar rig. VERY cool.

Ugggghhhhhh. The band I'm filling in for next week (the Papa Roach show) tunes down a whole step.... Both Lakies handle it well, but I HATE the feel of it. I don't know how you metal dudes do it, lol. I know it's only a half step lower than what my other three bands do, but I REALLY like the feel of higher tension and less floppiness.

You can use strings with a higher gage. I have a Lakland JO5 and I tune down a whole step. I use .050, .070, .090, .110 and .130 strings and sound and feel great.

Hey, my daughter was watching music videos "on demand" and I noticed Drowning Pool's bassist playing a blacked out 4-94 in the "Feel like I do" vid. Looked like a dot-less ebony board too. Very cool to see another Lakie in hard rock.

Unfortunately last November I had to sell all of my gear and haven't played since then. Yesterday I walked into a music store and played a 55-01 for about a half hour and loved it.... 2 questions?? I have owned several Laklands in the past but all were USA made. How is the stability of the neck on the skyline series? Also how are the Pickups and pre in this bass? I can get it for a great price and would love to start playing again! Thanks

You won't be disappointed. All 5-string Skyline necks are graphite-reinforced and solid as rocks. The necks on my 2 55-01 basses never move. Regarding the electronics in the -01 series basses, I love the tone of the stock Bartolini MK-1's. Some think they are too 'aggressive', but a lot of that depends on technique and string choice. I find they give a very good modern sound with an edge that really works well in any style of music. That said, a lot of people mod them by putting in Nordstrand and other Bartolinis that are USA-made. Lakland is also developing their own aftermarket pickup to put in the -01 series basses. For what it's worth, my 44 and 55 -01 basses get more use on average than my 44-02 Deluxe. I just really like the tone of the -01 basses. So yeah... BUY THE BASS!

nice to see you snooping in here.

the skyline 5 string necks are very stable, they have the graphite support like the US line.the 55-01 has the same neck as the 55-02,JO5 etc. the pickups and pre are a korean made bartolini. they dont sound bad at all, but many people swap them with nordy big singles,fat stacks,dc etc. and swap the pre with all the different ones.

they are really great basses.

I really don't think you will complain about either!

If you "love" jazz basses, go with the JO5 if you want J+ (Jazz plus variety) go with the 55-02!

My only Lakland for the moment is a 5501 - love it and I own 9 other Basses but this one is getting all the love. Get it, you can't lose!
