Thanks everybody for the welcome! I'm excited to start gigging this bass. I'm going to read a lot of these threads here on LOG and learn as much as I can about these basses.

lol, well I can help you point it in a more specific direction if need be. haha! Glad all is well your way! Yeah, I never thought I'd be controlling aircraft in the sky growing up as a kid, but I'm loving every minute of it so far!

Just got her in the mail Tuesday. My first 5 string and it's making the transition very easy for me. This bass has taken over my Warwick as number 1. And it sounds so nice!

So, how do the Darkstars sound? Like maybe in a Decade? I love those basses, and have wondered how they sound. Any details on anything to do with them would be cool.

I had posted this in the Lakland Owner's Group #44 thread:


I just noticed that there is a slight space between the G and D bridge saddles on my new 55-01. All of my other
5-string Skyline basses that I've owned always had the bridge saddles right up against each other, making contact.

This is one of the newer Indonesian made "PLEK'd" ones.

Any thoughts?


Since posting the above, I took my 55-01 to my bass tech. With the combination of working with the height adjustment screws and some side to side "encouragement," the bridge is now perfect!

Before my gig last night and before I took my 55-01 to my bass tech, I sent an e-mail to Leo at Lakland. When I arrived home from the gig I found a response from Leo. I was very impressed with the quick response. I was glad to respond back that my "concern" had been taken care of.

It gets close, but not close enough. I can live with it for a gig of course, but it looks like I'm going to have to add a Glaub to my arsenal at some point to really get that P sound I need/want.

I can't speak for a Darkstared Decade, but in the 44-64, it is very open and round. Clear highs and mids, and deep throaty low-mids and lows, and growl when you dig in.

I'm the exact opposite. I'm not covering the Darkstar, and the cover on Mr. Pink does finish it off.

I agree. There's a certain block-necked PJ there that I'd want to walk out with. Then there's that light-blue beauty.... Then the new blue monster...

The Brown truck came yesterday.

USA BG449.
Sherwood Green.
Tort. pickguard
Single chi-sonic pickup.

This bass was ordered 7 months ago.

Maybe one of the last BG's to leave Lakland ? (Happy it says BG449 on neck)

Not sure how many Sherwood Green P-Basses were made?

I know Marcus had a BG-chi-sonic.

Pickup, is P-like, deep, round, but with a wooly edge, not to bright.
Neck is insane, super feel, low setup out of the box.
Plays great.
Took pictures with i-phone, but having trouble loading up?

This is my third USA Lakland, could not be happier with this bass.

I have come to my senses...especially after a heart to heart talk with my luthier of choice (Carl Pedigo)....this bass (yet to be named) will get a "minor" faccelift (in stages)

1) painted headstock
2) P-styled minty pickguard

it will remain passive.....

you can all send out a sigh of relief now!!!! thanks for all of the input.
