OK OK.....it is a "passive tone knob".....people would complain that they lost some tonal control when they went passive on the basses....this knob is SUPPOSED to only work when the pre-amp is in passive mode but mine worked in both active and passive when I first got it....

Carl Pedigo said that was not possible since it was not "hooked up" that way....but I showed him that it did...kind of a "push it to 11" effect....adds a little more treble etc. in active mode

anyways - when i had it refinished, he 'fixed" it so it only worked in passive mode ("The way it was MEANT to be" according to Carl).....I told him that I never play passive and wanted it to work in active as well....well, He gave me that "oh god!" look and his eyes rolled but then he did it...he is ALL about customer service!

I have only seen them on humbucking CHI equipped basses to date....Ed Friedland has one on his 44-07, Markus has one on his 44-07 and I believe there is one on the 44-07 that Matty has (had???).

so...long story - hence seperate post!

So what does it do now? Replicate the Tone control on a passive P or J, whilst in active mode?

I haven't taken any photos of the Sheff. However, here's a few of my 55-02D.

Nice Cherryburst is the way to go on a 55-02D, I think (the transition between body and quilt top doesn't always look so good on a plain finish).

Now why, oh, why did I not bid on that cherryburst 55-02D fretless on ebay last year (oh yeah, I had this idea about holding out for an unlined one).

Yeah, it was pricey but it will be worth it. I nabbed 2 bottles. I could have bought a nice lakie instead, but I can always buy a lakie that's nice....they are all nice....a 30 year old scotch...a little harder to come by. They had a 60 year but I couldn't take out a second mortgage from Scotland.

Maybe it's just me, or I'm biased by my love for P3dulla Bu2z basses... but when I think fretless, I think Barts. That's why my 55-02 fretless has SC's old Barts in her.

I agree!

Like many colors, photos just don't do them justice due to lighting and other conditions. The translucent back is quite nice too.

You may get another chance. This 55-02D may be hitting the block soon - it's in like new condition to boot. However, this one didn't come from eBay. It was from Craig's List out of TN. I've been told I can keep one at any given time. <-- She makes the rules...

Shadowfax has the passive tone knob too, but it's located where the humbucker/single coil switch would be...

And... it's funny, but I swear I can feel Carl rolling his eyes over the phone lol!!

His "eye roll" is interdimensional....it crosses dimensions!!!

I'm actually legitimately saving my money right now
I can see a new bass in my future come Christmas time ...or maybe sooner if I'm lucky

They are one and the same....there is no "Doude" tone control....like "Markus Orange" (I am not so lucky!!!) But I can tell you that is adds to BOTH active and passive tone...but Gecko5 (John) does not seem to like it....see his post on the LOG!

woah!!! 60 year????? I am glad you saved a Lakie to buy a scotch (as long as I partake!!!!)
