Right now, it's top loaded with Chromes, so I'll have to see what happens when I string it through the body. It's only slightly off, so I don't think it's a major issue, just curious to see what others thought...

Hey, I just bought a used 2006 Skyline Glaub. Beautiful bass! Was Plek'd in 2009, neck is like butter, very happy...
But, I noticed in the pics after I bought it that the holes for body-through stringing seemed misaligned. Now that I've received the bass, I can see that the hole for the E string is, without question, out of alignment:

The guy I bought it from was not the original owner, and had never noticed it. I've asked him to contact the previous owner (he knows him) and find out if he was the original owner, and hopefully get some more info.
Anyway, I've never seen a Lakland with that type of issue. Has anyone else? Any thoughts? Is this nothing to worry about?
Thanks!

Uber frustrated with my bass right now. Trying to do a set up on it since its been so humid around here lately. I can't win with this thing! Got the neck nice and straight, got the action set where I like it, but random string buzz is blowing my mind. For the most part I'm buzz free until I hit the strings with some gusto, and with low action buzz is expected. But random fret's are buzzing (not major, but enough to annoy) no matter what I do, and any alterations I make to the setup change the feel from where I have it set. Intonation was a bastard too, no matter how much I drew the saddles back the fretted 12th note was still sharp compared to the harmonic. Eventually I got it but only after major adjustments to both the E and G strings. I have very little patience for these things and feel like I'm leaving myself with a half-assed setup. It's not neccesarily bad but I feel like it could be better. Really just need to vent hahah.
Also, I'm having a problem with my A string bottoming out on the first fret, I've tried everything under the sun to remedy the problem but nothing has worked. I talked to Brian at Lakland on the phone about it and worse case scenario could be a warped neck. Maybe this is causing my string buzz in random spots issue too. I'll have to take it to a tech sometime.
Update: Checked my intonation for ***** 20-30 minutes or so after setting it, G-string was way out. Didn't check the rest, kind of figured screw it. Either I suck at setting basses up (can do guitars all day) or I'm just not having any luck with this thing so to the tech it goes. Just bugs me that I can't get this done myself.
Lakland Double Gig Bag Out For Delivery!![]()
I don't recall seeing this issue, personally. It's a bummer, but if you're able to use the holes without a problem and everything lines up OK on top (bridge, pickups, strings, etc.), I wouldn't worry about it.
lol, so who was the original owner? This thing has taken a lot of UPS and FedEx rides!
The bass sounds and feels great, and the offset of the hole is not massively off, so I'm not upset about it, I'm just trying to figure out how it made it out of Lakland that way, and if they would consider that a problem or what.
Thanks guys.
Ok, I've gotta ask.... why in the world did you take a ruler to the string ferrules? I mean, I'm as anal about fit n finish as the next guy, but I'd never even think to look at that. Of course, after seeing this, I DID check a few of my Lakies. My Sky Dunn's ferrules aren't perfectly aligned, while the 2 US basses I grabbed were.

It should not be an issue as long as you can still string throught the body (that is - as long as the strings are long enough... and hat is such a SLIGHT difference that I do noth think it will be an issue).
I might send a picture of it to JP and/or Leo just to let them know.....they are always looking for ways to improve...on my last trip (last week) JP said that the goal was not just to put out basses that were "as good" as previously but to IMPROVE the quality even more...seems like a prettyt tall order when quality overall was really good/excellent to begin with...

I hadn't heard about these yet... are they selling them direct from the shop? Gotta give a call if so...![]()
Okay, I sent an email to Leo and asked him about any potential issues with the bass, and asked if it was originally sold as B stock. I'll update the thread when he emails me.
Thanks guys.
Thinking bout getting a 5594. Do you 5594 owners feel the need for another bass, like a P or J bass? I'm also interested in a Lak PJ, that's killing. Could get both, but might be stretching my budget with the PJ added, plus just a want also.
Also was wondering if I wanted the PJ to be my main bass like I intended for the 5594 to be. Trying to get the one all around bass. Slimming my collection down.
Hi there
I tried to buy 3-4 Lakland basses recently and they ALL went back due to QC issues. I thought it might be the supplier in the UK not looking after them, but some issues were basically poor QC. Im sorry to bring them to everyones attention and ruin the views on Lakland but the issue you have above I would have been equally annoyed.
Lets think...Skylines are NOT cheap. You do not get a case, and to send them to the UK without a gig bag is just not playing ball.
The out of line string through hole is pretty poor attention to detail and ive seen it on the basses hung up here in the UK (well one or two of them).
I tried to get a JO bass that was a Plek late 08 Indonesian model, and the neck pocket was HUGE. Really bad alignment, and the strings were therefore not straight on the neck and parallel to the pup poles. This was a new bass.
I like Lakland basses, but yet again this has gone back for a refund. I expected a high QC, but I didnt get it and this isnt the first time! (In fact its the forth in 6 months).
