Hokay ... so I have an early 2004 bass which suggests the later barts, but the pickup covers look exactly like the ones in the pic, with both logos raised, which I think you're suggesting means early barts. Not sure about the finish.There are three things that I know to know the newer barts from the old ones. The older ones were installed until late 2001 (mine is a late 2001 and still had them). The finish of the casings of the two pickups was different to the eye and to the touch, the bridge pup feeling like more "worn in" than the neck one. The logo on the two was made in a different manner too (like, one pressed in, the other sticking out), making it look as if the pickups came from different batches.

Anyway, I tried the shimming thing to no avail, but noticed some pretty deep ruts in the nut, so I suspect that is the problem. I'm having it looked at by a luthier so he'll be able to give me the run down.
